NYU Spring '10 Transfers!

You can check for your self if you want, everyday you can go to the NYU home page, if it lets you log in your in otherwise… keep waiting

how do you know what your NetID is?

Your social security number or the number on the letter NYU sends to you to confirm you have submitted your application.

your NetID either looks like:

your first initial, last initial, four numbers

OR

N(eight random numbers)

so it would either be something like: AB3467 or N12345678.

people frequently refer to the latter number as “your N number”.

Miss american pie… I could kiss you… * I now smooch my computer moniter*

GRGARGAGRAGRGARGARGAGRG!!! EFFFFFF CALCULUS!!! I JUST WANT TO BE EFFING ACCEPTED/REJECTED ALREADY ABJABFJBAUSFANFLKNOFINA!!!

aquafina

I failed my pre-calculus final the day before I got my NYU acceptance.

I was SO NERVOUS about NYU that I basically had like a nervous breakdown during finals week of that semester, lmao. I started clenching my teeth, I was smoking. . . it was awful.

Then I got here and I sheepishly tell my adviser I failed pre-calc and they were all, “whatever, just take math here” and signed me up for math.

Its so sad…I run to the mailbox everyday only for it to be empty! I really wish NYU had an online status thingy.

missamericanpie: if you don’t mind sharing, I’m curious to know how your NYU experience has been for you? Love it/Regret it?

^^^The fact that she hugs the transfer forum like a bear, waiting to advise prospective transfers, should be a small indication of how she feels about the school.

I LOVE NYU. I would be here even if my tuition wasn’t paid for. (Parent is faculty member.) (I only mention it because finances are a big deal to a lot of students here, and I should probably disclaim my opinion with that statement.)

My program here (media) is absolutely PERFECT for me. I’m a lifelong NYer and I didn’t want to stray too far from my home. I knew I didn’t want a traditional college experience. It was easy to have my credits transferred. I love Steinhardt. I’m really pleased with the experience. I applied ED and was rejected, so I was already in love with it before.

Some of the concerns you’ve probably heard are true. Some students are snobs, the bureaucracy can make you want to tear your hair out sometimes. It can be kind of isolating to be at NYU. I’ve been lonely sometimes.

But I love it and I’m so, so, so happy I’m here. I only applied to three other schools when I applied for transfer and I’m still humbled that NYU decided to take me.

lmao, east. a bear? i would think you would be the bear and i would be the bobcat or violet. ;-)

Well…bears hug things tightly, hence the term “bear hug.” It’s the quickest simile that came to mind on such short notice. Why would I be the bear?

I guess if you got in to Cornell you would be a bear? I don’t know why I said that. It’s like some kind of forum word vomit. Lmao.

Is NYU actually diverse? From what I’ve heard about their financial aid I find it hard to believe that there is much diversity.

Is it actually diverse? I fail to see the relationship between diversity and their ability/likelihood of giving out financial aid.

However, you can see the statistics on their website. They are actually more diverse than other, higher ranked schools that give substantially better finaid.

We actually have a lot of international students here. We are not only globally diverse, but geographically diverse within the US; students from the tri-state (NY-NJ-PA) area are actually in the minority.

We were ranked second in the whole COUNTRY for having the most international students. It was published in our school newspaper the other day.

[NYU boasts second-highest international student population | nyunews.com](Foreign Language Oscars - Washington Square News)

We’re also gay-friendly, in the top ten schools for Jewish students and even vegetarian and vegan friendly.

I joked with my friend the other day that probably the only way we are NOT diverse is in regard to Republicans. We have a pretty small number of Republicans at NYU, despite the Politics department leaning Republican or politically conservative.

The ability to offer financial aid directly affects diversity, because it allows students of different socio-economic groups to attend a school that they would not typically be able to afford without financial aid.

I’ve seen the numbers and I don’t doubt them. The diversity of NYU and NYC are one of the biggest reasons I applied. But, what I’m asking is, how diverse can a student body actually be if everyone can afford to pay $52,000 dollars a year for an education?

This crossed my mind a few weeks ago when I was taking a tour of Amherst College and was speaking with one of admissions officers. He was telling me that because of their ability to offer so much financial aid they are able to draw students from every corner of society making it a “truly diverse” campus. There were a lot of white kids there though. haha.

Not everyone pays $52,000 a year. Some people do take out loans. We also have scholarship programs for some of the schools, offering large scholarships to people who are disadvantaged but have great test scores and GPAs and show real promise. International students don’t receive financial aid and either take out loans or pay up front.

what do u put in the password section???
it didn’t work for me… i put my DOB for the password…

Well Mr/Ms monash-

That may most likely mean you havnt gotten in yet… thats kind of the point of checking. If it lets you, you’re in, if it doesn’t then keep waiting

I kind of wish I would have applied now. I was going to write about spider-man for my day with a new yorker question. Tony Stark would have been my second choice.
