NYU Spring Transfer 2015

@BoredEngineer yeah they weren’t too generous the first time around, but I’ve heard some people were able to get more money by appealing to the school after getting in. Like by calling the aid office and stuff. I don’t know, I’ll try not to get my hopes up. Ugh, private schools.

The struggle… lol.

Hi, I have just attend CC in Middlesex County College. My school offers a program related to NYU called CCTOP. I wonder what is this, is it easier to transfer to NYU some specific schools? Also NYU is my dream school I wish I could get in. Now i’m still undecided for my major. I can go without any financial aid.

Link for the program:<a href=“NYU CCTOP”>NYU CCTOP;
Link for majors offered by Steinhardt which is the only school included in the agreement: <a href=“Programs and Degrees | NYU Steinhardt”>Programs and Degrees | NYU Steinhardt;

But what is the use of CCTOP? Is it easier to transfer to Steinhardt/SCPS-McGhee than other non-partnership community college?

The supplement essay is the same as the fall supplement essay…would it be weird if I used a slightly tweaked version of the one I originally sent in?

Nope.

Hi guys, I really hope all of you get into NYU with the aid you need.

I’m currently a sophomore at Boston University and I’m trying to transfer to NYU. Here are my stats:

College GPA: 3.7 (seems low, but I’m pretty sure I’m close to the top because BU is known for pretty rough grades.)
High School GPA: 87/100 (let’s just say I messed up freshman year. HARD. 75 average and jumped up to 92-93 other 3 years)
SAT: 2130 (average I guess)
ECs: Premedical Society member; shadowed a physician for 100 hours; volunteered at a camp tutoring underprivileged for 200 hours, first generation kids (4th graders); volunteered at a high school of underprivileged kids tutoring them on the SAT; vice president of a science club in high school; 3 restaurant jobs (I wanted the experience of working hard to earn myself money); Indoor and Outdoor Track Teams; Math team member.

Do you guys know if NYU prefers transfer students who don’t apply for financial aid? My parents are very well off, so we’re just not applying for financial aid at all. Again good luck to everyone! You’re all looking pretty solid.

Hey guys, I had to give up on NYU… I moved to California and had to drop my life in NYC. I’m going to try for UCs now. Good luck in all your guys endeavors!

Sad to see you wont be joining us :frowning: GOOD LUCK BOYO

Hi guys,

I am applying as a transfer for NYU Spring 2015… I am wondering if I have a chance…
Currently I have not been in school for about 3 years. I took a break from school to concentrate on my ballet career. I had a job, a position at a small ballet company in NYC but was not paid, only benefits such as 10 free pairs of pointe shoes(about $100 per pair) per season.
I did a freshman year in Indiana University(2010-2011) but as a ballet major(Only able to take 5 ‘real’ classes for the year, others were all ballet, and one jazz dance class and piano classes which was a requirement for all ballet majors), so I think the transferable credits will put me as a second semester freshman.

Here are my stats:
GPA at IU: 3.97 out of 4.0
SAT I scores: Reading Comp:700 Math:740 Writing:600, = 2040
Highschool GPA: weighted, 3.91,
I went to a specialized boarding school for ballet, and they gave grades in those ballet and dance classes. They only weighted the ballet classes(not other ballet-related classes though), however, it still brought down my GPA. The teachers were very stringent on grading, and getting anything above B+ was almost impossible, because even for the very best prodigy student who might become the next Nureyev, they saved ‘A’ grades, to let us realize that one can never stop working towards the unattainable perfection. I am sure some people did receive an A, but it was very rare, and I was definitely not THE best in this prestigious academy.
But other than my ballet and dance classes, I have had all A’s in all my ‘normal’ classes except for one A- in Anatomy&Physiology, which I took in 9th Grade. I did graduate with high honors and as a Valedictorian only counting the grades in academics.

My question is, will NYU look at my unweighted GPAs like most colleges do? I do not know how my GPA will look like if the ballet classes were unweighted, my transcript do not say. It only shows one GPA and I guess that is the weighted one, because I am frankly horrified to know what it would be unweighted! Or will they only look at the grades and GPAs of the ‘normal’ classes other than ballet such as math, english, foreign language, science, art history, etc…

Also, I have not had much EC other than dancing, because it took up all of my time. I danced all year at the boarding school, and I would attend summer intensive in the summer, barely no time for a break at all. I did volunteer at an organization while in NYC though, but that is about it.

I am still trying to write the second supplemental essay, and is freaking out just a little bit, because I feel like I don’t have that much to play up other than dancing. Or will that be enough?

Sorry for the LOOONG post, but please, let me know what you think.

I’d say you have a 60-70% shot of admittance depending on the competitiveness of transfer pool. Good luck.

You have a strong chance of admission in my opinion.

I came from Hong Kong and attending CC in New Jersey. But my high school grades are totally screwed, like half of my classes are failing, school in Hong Kong is not easy at all. I want to try transfer like after a year of studying in CC. Just want to give a try. Do they accept ACT score instead of SAT? If I want to apply for freshman year?

I’m looking to transfer either as an Econ major or to the business school (though I probably don’t have a good chance at Stern. I’m currently in my sophomore year. I had to transfer out of my first school after the first semester of freshman year due to family issues (will obviously communicate that with admissions). I still made a 3.71. At my state’s flagship university, second semester, I earned a 3.786 in the business school. This semester I am looking to earn a 3.7+. I am also a member of the honors college. As far as EC’s go, I am a member of a fraternity, the finance society, and have helped in the coordination of various philanthropic events such as an Autism Speaks event that raised over $50k, a party and basketball tournament that’s proceeds were donated to Breast cancer. This summer, I also worked full time at the world headquarters of a major corporation. What do my chances look like if I’m looking to apply to NYU? I would really appreciate any input/suggestions, thanks!

Probably slim to none but you would have an amazing shot if you applied to the economics major at NYU-CAS which would open some of the same doors as Stern.

Switched my major of choice to Social Work, I feel I can better help people with this major!

Apparently, the undergraduate program at the Silver School of Social Work is very competitive when it comes to transfer admissions… wow. It is a good thing I poured my heart and soul into that application, hahahah.

Good luck to everyone applying!!

Current School: Onondaga CC (Upstate NY)
Current GPA: 3.8
Applying: CAS Econ
ECs: Phi Theta Kappa, Fulltime sales associate, tons of volunteer hours at an elderly facility, organized a walk for depression awareness.

Hopefully I get in :)

I’m a first year student at Barnard College. I applied to NYU Gallatin regular decision and got in (will this hurt? help?) but ended up going to Barnard and regretting it. I had a 2120 on my SATS (CR:690 M:720 W:710) and a 700 in US history and 720 in Math 1. I had a 95 average or so in high school. I was wondering how my chances are looking? Also, can we get recommendations from high school advisors, as I’m only a freshman and don’t have a real connection to anyone at Barnard yet. Also, what college grades do they want? Thanks for any help!
