Hey Everyone! So I thought I'd make this thread for everyone who is applying to NYU for the spring 2014 semester. Hopefully we can all use this to ask and answer questions as well as just keep each other posted on admissions progress and decisions.

Here are my stats:

HS GPA: 3.8
SAT: 1800 (not too happy with it)
Subject tests : US History: 600 ; Math I: 600 (not too happy with these either)
Current school: Loyola University of Maryland
Current year: freshman
EC: lots of higshcool ones, college: rugby, choir, A Capella
Applying to CAS for Neuroscience

Let's give each other advice and talk this through. I'm from New York and I miss the city and I love NYU. I hope all of us get in!

I applied early September.
College GPA: 3.75 (Rigorous Schedule - in a graduate econometrics course now, honors real analysis, 400/300 level classes since freshman year in hard sciences)
HS GPA: 3.5
ACT: 30 (33math/eng, 27 reading/science)
Current School: Michigan State
Current Year: Sophomore
EC: Ran a business, robotics founder, college: research assistant, fed reserve challenge
Applying to CAS for Mathematics

Good luck, I’m not sure how hard it is to transfer first semester.

I hear transferring first semester is really tough, especially concerning their freshman class right now is so big. Gotta keep a positive attitude though!

I am applying as well. Would love some opinions on my chances! Here are my stats:

HS GPA: 3.47
College GPA: 3.857
SAT: Not submitting
Current school: University of North Texas
Current year: Junior
EC: Rho Lambda Greek Women’s honor society, Order of Omega all greek honor society, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, Kappa Gamma Gamma Sorority, Ambassador for the Mayborn School or Journalism, Founding Member of the UNT Vegan Club (Mean Greens for Animals), and New Student Orientation Leader

Applying to CAS to double major in broadcast news and global public health. Got my essays proofed by someone in admissions at my school. Have 1 great rec letter from my high school principal and 2 by college professors.

NYU is my dream school! I want to get in more than anything. The only thing I feel holding me back is the fact I have 81 credit hours. BUT they do not accept college credit earned in high school. Also, if my transcript is analyzed close enough, I will only have about 57 transferrable hours. I would still have 2, maybe 2 and half years in NYC. Not applying for financial aid.

I’m glad to see the community has good candidates! I hope we can all get in!

I applied today as a sophomore.
College GPA: 3.65 (aced all math and CS classes)
Current School: City College of San Francisco
Major: Computer Science
SAT: not submitting
EC: Founder of a startup, Coders club member, Sales Manager at another startup.

Opinions about my chances are highly appreciated.

Honestly FlexPavillion and Thes1tuation I think you both have pretty good chances, especially when you look at the acceptance statistics for NYU. You seem to be good to go.

Rachel0725 Honestly your dream will come true, GPA above average and good EC’s. I hope you essay looks as good.

Hi guys! What do you think my chances are?
I’m a sophomore at a large public flagship. I am applying to transfer into CAS for economics. My HS GPA was 3.8
College GPA is 3.6 (3.75 with current semester’s grades)
I did the NYU precollege in HS and got straight As.
5 on AP Macroeconomics
4.00 economics GPA (4 classes) including one graduate class

Cons: My current declared major is health information management. My school’s Econ department sucks at job placement so…I want to transfer

I only took 14 hours both semesters of my freshman year. My second semester I took 2 one hour workout classes. One for swimming and one for weight lifting. I really hope that those classes do not effect my chances of getting in. Basically I only took 12 hours of real classes.

I also don’t have any job experience in the economics field.

@Teamawesomese Did you express in your essay that you wanted to switch majors and for what reason? I think if they see you want to go into economics then see your killer Econ stats from the past, they’ll be more than likely to accept you.

I’d say though looking at your stats overall, with the exception of your credit hours in college (which shouldn’t be too much of a problem), I’d say you have a great chance of getting in

I’m not entirely sure yet. Either leaning towards working on startups in the developing world or doing an Economics PhD and working as an economist in the private sector. What about you?

Just curious, why would you do an econ phd to be a quant? Wouldn’t a math PhD be much better? If you like the financial sector, consider being an economist at a bank. I’ve considered being a quant, but i’m nowhere near good enough at math to do so I feel. Plus, i’m not so sure about career security as a quant in the future. Also, don’t do a PhD just because you want to be a quant, a MFE would be a lot easier route.

Hi all! I submitted my application about a week ago.

HS GPA: 94 (we did it out of 100, don’t ask me why!)
SAT: 2130
Subject tests : US History: 650 ; Biology M: 730
Current school: Tulane University
Current year: sophomore
Applying to: Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality Management
EC: theater, dance classes, assistant choreographer for children’s theater, staff writer on college and high school newspapers, Campus programming board, university honors program, Sleepaway Camp counselor job, volunteer intern at independent bookstore, intern with fashion PR company (worked at NY Fashion Week)

I am currently on a semester long full time internship at the Walt Disney World Resort. From my experience here I’ve decided that I’m extremely interested in the Hospitality field, but Tulane doesn’t offer Hospitality Management as a major. My essay discusses all the reasons why I’m interested in transferring to study this new subject based on my experience working at Disney.

I know this isn’t a popular school to apply to, so I’m wondering what my chances are like. Thanks!

@hotelhunt I know Tisch is one of the more competitive schools at NYU, but I only really know that this is the case is you’re planning on doing some form of performing or fine art. My guesses are that since you’re majoring in something that, I’d say, isn’t extremely popular within Tisch, you have a great chance of getting in.

The way I look at it is that someone once told me Johns Hopkins gives out hefty grants and scholarships to those who opt to major in, let say, business because everyone who goes there is pre-med. If you study hopspitality management in a school thats primarily arts, you’ll stand out from the basic music major application and probably get in.

Applying for NYU CAS Economics - Spring
I have a little more than 1.5 years finished of college work at a CCC.
3.9+ GPA (One “B” in an elective)
Very overloaded schedule (max units last semester, student petition to go over this semester)
Heavy volunteering, traveling, experience in entrepreneurship, ect
Essays are about programs at NYU I will be involved in if I get in. Also about what I have accomplished so far in college but why I need to transfer to keep on growing academically.

Cons-
less than 3.0 GPA in H.S. (I know- cut a lot to travel world)
never took SATs so not submitting

Questions:
Is the “Final Report” for H.S. required? because I’m not turning it in.

@Travel7Seas I think if you have a certain amount of college credits, 24 I believe… Could be wrong, then you don’t need to send in your high school report. You will though need to send in some proof of graduation, diploma etc…

Hey guys~i’ll be studying in a partnership CC with NYU Steinhardt. I’m a student studying in Hong Kong, a senior student. I was born in the US (New York), but have been living in Hong Kong for most of my life. I’m coming to the US study in a partnership CC because of NYU, no financial aid needed, that’s all lol. I WILL NOT choose any other universities to apply, i’m so fall in love with NYU. Took SAT twice but low score. So I gotta work my butt off when I’m studying in the US while studying in CC.
Anyway, hope all of you good luck could transfer into NYU. I know that feeling fall in love with NYU lol. Good luck guys and keep working hard!

@FlexPavillion
Great, I hope so. I’ll have the registrar person send over my high school transcripts. I think that should be fine.

@Teamawesomese
Did you get specific in the “academic interests” essay about NYU & Econ?

NYU is the only school I’ll be applying for Spring. I’ll be applying to UCs and Ivy Leagues for fall 2014. Does anyone know how the student dorms work?
