Hi guys,
I'm a person who's always wanted to take up a career in the art field for pretty much my entire life, and this year I've been accepted to quite a few schools, and now I've narrowed down my list to:
NYU Steinhardt for Studio Art OR
Central Saint Martins (Foundation Course) in the UK.

I would absolutely love to be in NYC and I guess that's a definite advantage of going to NYU since i would hopefully be able to get loads of internships and stuff, but from what i heard the NYU studio art programme isn't exactly 'well-known'. Since i don't know much about the programme and i'm most interested in learning visual/communication design, i'm hesitant on choosing NYU. But then apparently the studio art programme gives students much freedom on what to do during the 4years so i'll probably steer my focus towards visual design throughout college if I end up going to NYU.
Onnn the other hand, if I go to CSM, i'll be doing a year of foundation, then properly aim for their BA at graphic design. I know CSM's extremely well-known for their graphic design programme and this is why i want to go there, but i'm worried that after a year of foundation, i'm suddenly going to realize that 'graphic design isn't my thing' - then i would be stuck after having done a whole year's worth of art, without a place to go to.

Both NY and London sounds awesome to me, and since money's not particularly an issue (although London does have lower school fees which is tempting), i just really want to hear you guys' opinions about the two programmes, and some advice!:)

Oh and one last thing, I'm aiming to go to Yale/Columbia for graduate school, so this has also been a factor to consider in choosing either to go to NYU or CSM...Ultimately, i've constantly been stuck though.

Thanks!:)

hi there
figuring out from extra “e” in the word “program” you are from England?
read this below I just posted.
ignore blah blah and go down to the last post, I mean second to the last or so.
that’s where Columbia MFA come from.
and
I don’t know if you’d seen the show, you’d even want to go there. I don’t think Yale is much different either, that’s what MFA does these days.
how about in UK?

hey haha, nah i’m korean but i’ve gotten british education during highschool so i use the british spelling! yep i went to the link you attached, and hmm…no NYU, no CSM!aahhh. But i do see cooper union, where I got rejected from this year…i wonder if it was much more competitive this year for intl students.
truth is, if i go to NYU, i might consider transferring to Tisch for digital arts or something, i think they have an undergraduate major on that?

But neway, what i want to ultimately do is to get a job in the art field and be successful in it, so for now i’m pretty sure i want to go do an MFA, regardless of the shows they seem to put on thesedays haha, but thanks for the info:) but back to the NYU vs CSM in the UK issue, what do you think i should do?

like I said today in the same thread, there is no way telling unless seriously look into which school seems feeder or not because of what. trend? works? politics?
and there is one NYU Tisch kid made weird video thing in there.
besides those 4 mystery no-educational-bio students could be from CSM, hahaha.
I don’t sweat which school you do BFA or BA.

sorry can’t do NYU.
I live here long enough and fed up/biased big time.
to me it is just this big villages’ real-estate Godzilla that poor(I mean VERY rich) international and/or outa town kids were lead to believe getting top notch education in top notch city that should cost top notch, had to do commencement at the ballpark for as so many students are graduating.
there are plenty NYU fans out there you should talk to.
