NYU Stern Admissions

I’ve decided that I really want to go to NYU Stern for my undergrad. I love the location and everything, but I’m not sure if I would be able to get in. I’m a junior right now and will be a senior for the 2015-2016)
GPA: 3.4 (low, but my high school rank is high so the classes are kinda tough, I take some honors and AP’s)

SAT: 2100 (but I’m taking it again in a week and I’m hoping for a 2250)
ACT: 33

AP’s: AP Language and Composition, AP Government, AP Spanish, AP Literature, and hopefully AP Macro&Micro

Sports: I play girls golf for my school, :stuck_out_tongue: I’ve played for 3 years and I would say I’m an average player

Extracurriculars: Homeroom Representative for Student Council for 3 years, FBLA member since freshman year (won awards at Regionals, a gold member, a part of a school and state committee- really involved), Project Sunshine (volunteer club, 2 years, not super active), Theater Company (member for 4 years, cast and crew, something I’m very passionate about, like as a hobby), Business Associate for the school newspaper for 3 years and I got into Debate Club’s Mock Trial team for next year, but that’s really just for fun, something I wanna do.
So the really big clubs are FBLA, Theater, Hawkeye, and possibly, Debate club next year

Volunteer work: Volunteer hours from certain club and school events, Animal Shelter hours, and I teach mentally and physically challenged kids how to swim

Other: Columbia University Summer program, People to People Student Ambassadors trip around Europe, and possibly (waiting for acceptance) People to People Business summer program at Chicago University

Help me out, maybe give any advice? Thanks!!!

You have a good shot but it is a bad idea to decide on any one school right now. Don’t fall in love with probably the most competitive undergraduate major at NYU.

NYU has horrendous financial aid if that is something you need. Many kids find this out very late in the process. Talk to your parents early about finances.

Also, the business program is not such a standout anymore. In fact in the area, TCNJ is considered equal but clearly less known but climbing fast.

You should also consider Lehigh, Villanova, Bucknell, Boston College and University of Rochester. I would even take a shot at Cornell if you have adequate high probability choices and a solid safety, Rutgers for example.

Hi,

I am a current NYU Stern student, and I am with three other Stern students right now at our financial internship.

We think that your GPA is a little too low. Make sure to boost it up during senior year. And take ACT so you get a higher score.

Peace.

Thank you! My SAT score is my 2220 (superscore) , and do you think if my first marking period grades are all A’s, I would have a good chance? I’m taking the ACT this Saturday, I’m trying to get a 34.
