NYU Stern Business School Undergraduate Finance

Hi Everyone,

As an full fee paying international student looking to study at NYU's Stern Business School's undergraduate Finance program, if I have SAT score higher than 2300, 800's on Math level 2, Chemistry and US History along with 5's on AP Calculus BC, US History, Statistics, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, along with decent EC's and awards (regional and state), would I be able to consider NYU Stern as a safety school?

btw my school DOES NOT OFFER AP COURSES and I had to largely self study all 5 AP courses if it is any help. Will have internships, professional music diploma, debating, Model UN and community service on my application

Stern is never a safety, but it looks like you would have a great chance. Depends on what is in the rest of your application.

@desie1‌ thank you for your reply! So what else do you think I should have in my application to increase my chances for Stern?

Killer essay and superb LOR

Bump please- I am really curious to determine the difficulty of getting into Stern. Reach or match?

Check out the NYU threads, including the stats of other accepted students.

Hi there, we are pretty much in the same boat. My school doesn’t offer any AP courses or IB program either. My GPA isn’t too appealing and seems like my only hopes are the SAT and essay. I’m also an international student by the way (From Canada). Stern is my dream school, and I have to say the admission can be extremely unpredictable. I have friends that got in with mediocre standardized test scores, yet I have friends rejected with amazing test scores, excellent GPA, and a bunch of extracurricular activities. I guess it all depends whether you application reflects you’re a suitable applicant, and that’s why people usually say whether a school is “fit” for you. But then again, it’s really hard to predict the chances of getting into Stern.

And I want to ask you, have you taken your AP tests already? If not, are you self-studying them right now? Because I’ve never taken any AP tests before and I am planning to study for them, it’s just that I don’t know how can I add that onto CommonApp when I apply, since there would be no proof of any of the AP records…Just very concerned with this.

Here are just my two cents though, I’d love to hear more opinions on the admission. If you’d like, you can always shoot me a private message and we can discuss more about the Stern application :S Honestly though, so anxious about this.

@stillastudent I have not taken the AP exams yet, but I just wanted to put it out there to see how hard it is to get into Stern Business School. I had a look at the results thread for Stern on College Confidential and it doesn’t seem like it is too hard to get in with great stats and ECs so I guess it just comes down to your essays. I’m an International Student from Australia who is applying in a few years and I’m taking AP exams before applying to show initiative and demonstrate academic skills. I am self studying for my AP exams by purchasing the popular US textbooks by Princeton Review and Barrons etc. all the information you need for the exams, including the structure, time limit, technique etc. but it is an arduous process especially in subjects such as AP Calculus BC. Don’t be concerned with the AP scores on the Commonapp, as you can self report your scores in it and the colleges will take your word for granted (you sign an online declaration saying that all information contained within is correct before submitting the application). I have a few years to study for 5 AP subjects on top of my rigorous school schedule, so I should be fine for Stern as long as my essays are ok (considering this as one of my high safety/match school).

@stillastudent message me if you want to discuss more
