NYU Stern ED Chances (will chance back!)

Alright, so I know everyone is already doing these chance threads, but everyone that I know seems to think that I can get in to NYU in general - it's just that I know that Stern is MUCH more competitive.

SAT: 2220 (770 W/760 M/690 CR)
ACT: 33 composite (35 E/33 M/33 S/30 R + 9 essay)
SAT IIs: (730 Math I, 720 Math II, 680 French w/ Listening)
GPA: 3.63 UW / 3.97 UW

APs:
- 5: US History
- 5: German
- 5: French
- 4: World History
- 4: Macroeconomics
- 4: English Language
- 4: Calculus AB
- 3: Microeconomics
- Statistics
- Environmental Science
- English Literature
- Government/Politics

Demographics: Multiracial (African American, Native American, and White) from New Jersey

Intended Major: Finance & International Business [double major]

Extracurriculars include:
- varsity crew for 2 years
- Big Brother/Big Sister
- president of German club
- president of Crew Club (incl. lots of fundraising!)
- president of Free Rice Club
- former president of Business & Economics Club
- Applachian Service Project for 3 years (trip to Appalachia to repair homes every summer)
- 200+ service hours [including 70+ hours during this summer vacation]
- foreign exchange programs each summer for 3 years
- self-teaching 3 languages
- Youth representative for Youth Ministries Council
- numerous hours for political campaigns
- self-founded business for 8+ years
ETC.

I can speak three languages fluently, and am currently in the process of teaching myself Swedish, Italian, and Portuguese.

I am definitely in the upward trend scenario, as my GPA went from a 3.35 to a 3.85 from freshman to junior year. As you can see, I am also truly passionate about the major I want to enter in.

Please chance me! Thank you so much! I'll chance back and good luck to my fellow seniors - class of 2014!

ALSO APPLYING TO:
- University of Pennsylvania - Columbia University - Georgetown University - Boston College - McGill University - George Washington University - Boston University - Rutgers University - University of Toronto

Your test scores are very good, but your GPA is lacking. However, since you have an upward trend I think you won’t have a problem with it. Also since you have a very unique demographic (african and native american?!?!) you have a much better chance at a lot of these schools.

NYU Stern: Match

University of Pennsylvania: Low reach

Columbia University: Reach

Georgetown University: High match

Boston College: Low match

McGill University: Can’t say

George Washington University: Low match

Boston University: Safety

Rutgers University: Safety

University of Toronto: Can’t say

Stern ED - high match
Penn - reach
Columbia - reach
Georgetown - low reach
Boston College - match
GWU - safety
BU - safety
Rutgers - safety

I also don’t know much about internationals.

You have a great shot for Stern ED but as you probably know, it’s hard to get into. Ivies are reaches for everyone.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1525734-chance-me-umiami-any-merit-aid-will-chance-back-6.html</a></p>

Seems like you have a pretty good shot, but GPA seems to be somewhat lacking. Make sure to have a strong essay and Rec on your app, and you should be okay. Also, be sure to emphasize your community service and ECs. Those will help big time.

Chance me if you have the time:

Here are McGill’s admission standards. It is more difficult to find UofToronto’s exact standards but they are roughly simialar to McGill’s.

[Admissions Standards - U.S. High School | Applying to Undergraduate Studies - McGill University](http://www.mcgill.ca/applying/standards/unitedstates)

For management at McGill: A- average in grades 10, 11 and 12; A- in each English and prerequisite math; each SAT I and II 650 or ACT 29 (math and English subscores 26)

Your scores exceed what McGill wants but your gpa is a bit lower than the standard. Therefore I would put McGill (and Toronto) as low reaches, as they generally want A- and greater students for their business schools. Still your scores are excellent and your gpa is not much below so you have a reasonable chance.

Good Luck!

Stern ED - high match
Penn - reach
Columbia - reach
Georgetown - low reach
Boston College - match
GWU - low match
BU - low match
Rutgers - safety

Stern ed is going to be a low reach. You have a lot of ecs and great sat scores. I’m not really seeing a pattern which may effect you. When I say pattern I mean that nothing really says Stern. However you’re competitive with a low gpa and have taken a lot of aps. Not to be a downer but I don’t think Columbia is worth applying to. It may just be my school or my region, but people tend to have better luck with MIT and Harvard because although all high level schools look for things that differentiate, Columbia(maybe just my region again) looks for bizarre things.

I think you have a good chance for Stern. My bro got in Early Decision II and he didn’t have a hook or anything. He had ~3.70 unweighted GPA, a couple extracurriculars, and decent essays, and is very passionate about business. Definitely apply ED I or II if you really want to go.

Stern-high match
Penn- high reach
Columbia-high reach
Georgetown-reach
BC-match
GW-low match
BU-low match
Rutgers-safety

You seem like a great candidate for just about any school! it’s just a crap shoot with all of the ivies and extremely competitive schools.

Chance me back!

Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1542930-chance-me-ut-engineering-non-auto-admit.html</a></p>

Given your URM status (make sure you play that up) I would say it’s highly likely you’ll get admitted to all of them.

Bump .

NYU Stern: good match
UPenn: reach
Columbia: reach
Georgetown: low reach
Boston College: Low match
George Washington: match
Boston University: low match/Safety
Rutgers: Safety

good luck!

I think you’ll get in to Stern. As for the Ivies, you know those are always reaches, but you have a shot. Rutgers… Don’t be silly

Chance me back!

You look pretty set for Stern. The scores are decent, the EC’s look above average, and minority status is there too. I know multiple people who got into Stern with scholarship whose EC’s can’t compare to yours. Plus, it looks like a lot of your EC’s are business focused which is great for Stern. Georgetown is a bit harder, so probably low reach there. Columbia and Penn are going to be hard for anybody, so those are still reach. Your other colleges look like solid acceptances though.

Chance me back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1555379-chance-me-yale-scea.html</a></p>

Gonna row in college? Crew is good news for colleges (I once did Community Rowing in Boston, we have decent success with sending guys to row in college), its where $$$ goes towards…If you’re any good, and think about “walking on” and make contact with a coach on any of these schools, your odds may improve. For now though…

NYU Stern: Match/high match
University of Pennsylvania: low Reach
Columbia University: low Reach
Georgetown University: Low reach/high match?
Boston College: Match
McGill University: Low match
George Washington University: match/low match
Boston University: Low match
Rutgers University: safety
University of Toronto: Match (Wonderful place)

I missed the URM hooks when I originally chanced this, and then had to change a few “low reaches” into “high matches” and so on…guess where that must’ve happened
Good luck!

NYU Stern: high match

University of Pennsylvania: low reach

Columbia University: mid reach

Georgetown University: match/high match

Boston College: match

Boston University: low match/safety

(minority status is a huge bonus)

Is there a difference in applying ED I and ED II to NYU Stern?
What I mean by that is: will applying ED I help me more than applying ED II? (Or conversely, will applying ED II hurt me compared to ED I)?

Thanks for the responses so far guys!

Does NYU Stern prefer the SATs or ACTs?
I feel as if the SATs would be secretly preferred, but I definitely did a little better on the ACTs: 34 composite, 35 superscored.
