I’m currently a junior at NYU Stern studying finance and data science. I remembered how much these forums helped me during the college admission process, so ask away about anything.
can u get into stern with bad grades
How bad are we talking? NYU’s average GPA is 3.7 but since Stern is Ivy level I’d expect you would need at least a 3.85+ to have a good change of getting in.
I applied to NYU as college of arts and science economics major
and im currently debating if I should switch to STERN economics or management but I feel like my extracurriculars and grades are just average or below average and nothing really stands out…
does the majority of applicants who get accepted to STERN have great ecs and grades?
I don’t know how different Stern economics classes differ from CAS, but switching would give you the opportunity to take all Stern electives. I would say the most important part is the essay, and explaining why you want to transfer.
GPA is an important factor, I can’t say without seeing your entire application, since NYU has a holistic admissions process.
Hi! Thank you so much for this.
Really, I would like to know about the opportunities of Stern. I recently watched a webinar hosted by NYU Stern Street Team and noted that the average starting salary was about $85k for class of 2019, up from $80k for class of 2018 and $72k for class of 2017. I was wondering if this is because NYU Stern is gaining more recognition/ students are getting more opportunities, or is higher salaries a trend across the board for finance/consulting first year analysts?
Additionally, how is career exploration at Stern? Many students decide to major in marketing, supply chain, etc. but still mainly go into consulting/finance jobs. Are students planning for diverse career paths and how were they introduced to those paths at Stern?
One more pretty broad question. At NYU, I hear a lot about opportunities to study abroad, get involved with pre-professional clubs, and do research and internships. Realistically, are Stern students able to get involved with so many different things considering difficult coursework (for example, studying abroad a semester and leaving behind leadership positions, networking opportunities, etc.)? I am heavily considering exploring entreprenuership in college, but I am unsure I will have the time/ others will have the time to contribute to those endeavors.
Hi,
My question is regarding financial aid (merit and need based scholarship), which may not be answered by you , Please share what you know.
Got admission in NYU stern business school but realized that css profile was missing in my application and hence nothing received as financial aid or scholarship. I assumed css profile would require only for parents/family who earn less than 100k and assumes I may not get qualified. I found there is a NYU net price calculator which shows my family contribution as 60K.
Now my question…If I would have filled css file on time, NYU would have offered need/merit based scholarship to fill the gap which would be 20 K ( 80k -60k) . Is that the expectation or works? or is it still a chance that NYU may not fill the gap and may offer little or no scholarship at all? Also is it possible for me to fill out next year for sophomore?
@uvalover2020: Seems as though you need to contact NYU admissions & financial aid office.
I was wondering what sort of stats the average admitted student at Stern had. After doing a little bit of research on Stern’s website, I found that the average SAT score was roughly 1490. However, I could find nothing on ACT scores or GPA. What do you think the average scores would be for those categories? Also, I’m curious as to how these numbers would vary from EDI to EDII to the RD phase.
