NYU Stern

I'm currently a sophomore in high school and I have started looking into colleges. I have been looking into NYU Stern,
which I know is very selective, especially for students intending on majoring in Finance. I am interested in recommendations for making myself a better applicant.

I attend a top public high school, and in a program that focuses in Business and Finance.
My GPA is currently a 3.5, there is no weighting, and I take all honors classes. (I know this is low, working on it.)
Additionally, I am not ranked, due to the competitive nature of mt school.

I have only taken the PSAT so far, and have gotten a 188, with a 660 in Critical Reading, 640 in Math, and 580 in Writing equivalency. I was wondering if it is possible to raise SAT scores 200-300+ points, as I did no studying whatsoever before the PSAT.

Next year, I will be taking all IB classes, and hope to receive the IB Diploma. IB classes will include Econ HL, History HL, Literature & Language HL, Spanish HL, and Physics SL. I am taking Calc I Honors next year, followed by Math SL senior year.
I will also take an elective class that will allow me to take the AP US Government test next year. My schedule is full, and my school does not offer the class but an accelerated elective is offered insted.

My ECs consist of Euro Challenge(going to Semi-finals round his week), Environmental Club, DECA(state finals this year), Girl Up Club, Business Professionals of America(ambassador award), and plan on starting an investment club next year.
I am also participating in a local entrepreneurship program over the summer, which I also did last year.

I have typical volunteering stuff, and should have 200+ hours by senior year.

In my senior year, I also intern one day a week, and can easily get an internship at JP Morgan Chase, due to my bestfriend's dad...

I know I'm pretty young for chancing, so I was just wondering how I could work towards increasing my chances as an applicant in NYU and other undergrad Business Schools. Also, are there other schools that I should look into, based on my stats?

Thanks in advance!

im in the same boat as you. im a sophomore at a competitive school and want major in finance at stern. i plan on doing ED. were both the same level in terms of students as well, i think we are both high match/low reach. get that SAT up and you have a good chance. any suggestions on how to get a HS internship at an investment bank?? i think it will greatly increase my chances. thank you ;)

…you can’t get an internship at an investment bank as a high school sophomore…those are the internships actual Stern students are fighting hard to get.

your stats are very very low aim to get 3.75+ and bring your SAT to above a 2220 minimum. It’s getting very competitive and frankly there is a lot of randomness as I’ve met lots of people with amazing stats (4.0 GPA and 2300+ SATs get rejected) so the best you can do is write an amazing essay and have unique ECs to differentiate yourself, apply and hope for the best.

Getting an internship isn’t that hard if you know the right people. However, you are most likely going to end up interning at a boutique firm. I happen to know one of the top guys at Goldman, but even he couldn’t get me an internship because I’m too young.

I networked around Junior year and got an internship at a private equity firm. Surprisingly enough, I didn’t have to do grunt work and actually got a shot at researching companies and pitching ideas to portfolio companies.

Try emailing any local firms and asking them if you could intern. What do you have to lose?
