<p>Hello, I am a freshman in Steinhardt majoring in Studio Art.
Through first few weeks at NYU, I have noticed that I am not a kind of person to major in art. I have always loved Art, but it seems ridiculously difficult for me to maintain good grades this semester. I have discussed with my parents and adviser, and I decided to change my major next semester in Spring. However, now the problem is this. I am in Fund of Drawing, Fund of Sculpture, Contemporary Art & Culture, Digital Photography, New Student Seminar classes this semester. I am changing my major to Teaching Mathematics. (coz I have always loved teaching/helping someone, has been a math tutoring club leader, worked as a TA in summer) My new department adviser wants me to at least take Calculus I class that is related to Teaching Mathematics Dpt. But my current adviser says that all the Studio Art major freshmen have to take these art classes only. To be honest, I don't want to be in those classes anymore, just too tired of Art. But then my adviser keeps saying I can't drop these art classes, so I was thinking about Leave of Absence, but I think I went too far with that idea. Why can't Studio Art freshmen take liberal arts classes in their first year? I would be needing those credits in Junior year anyways. I am going to see my adviser once again tomorrow, but I just feel like he won't let me. I seriously want to drop all the art courses and take some liberal art courses and Calculus. Would there be anyway? Anyone? :_(</p>
