Congrats UVaHoo87 to your son. I’ve heard a lot of great things about ETW and I know it is also a very popular one for advanced training as well.
(And yes your son can choose Atantic or Strasberg for advanced which would give him a totally different perspective and experience. That’s the beauty of the studio system!)
So glad you are happy.

My D was placed in the studio she requested - Atlantic. A great match for her.

Thanks, Mommy5! It’s been a long convoluted road for my S to get to NY. i have not posted much on cc this time around, but I have been following all of your journeys, celebrating the highs and lows. We know some folks who have gone through ETW and my s has done several physical theatre productions, plus his audition monologue was very movement based, so it was likely the Sorting Hat would select him for that studio. But he loves classical language too and is hoping that he’ll get the chance to learn it all at NYU! Research maven. Atlantic is awesome. Glad your d finally knows!

Researchmaven. My D was also accepted at the Atlantic, but we know little about it. Why did your daughter requested Atlantic? What can you share about that studio? Thanks.

^^^Chairo, I highly recommend post #113 in this thread by “Iwishyouwell”. He/she is an alum of Atlantic and this is a wonderfully descriptive description of the studio. Congratulations to everyone!

Personally, I think you should trust the studio in which you were placed. It’s not like they’re gonna change your studios before school starts. You can change after two years without fear. NYU does a really great job in placing their students. My son is in the inaugural class for NSB and absolutely loves it. He’ll be a senior in the fall. He’s also in the Physical Acting track- he had to audition for that class. The studio is owned by NYU and my son loves that’s it’s not tied down to one specific method. You really can’t read too much into the comments on these threads because they are very biased. My son was so happy to get into his dream school that it didn’t matter to him which studio he got placed. The only place it would make a difference is if you wanted to get in NSB MT and you did not. Other than that- trust the school!

So my daughter was placed in the New School on Broadway which was a surprise to her. She has since the time she auditioned thought she wants a straight acting program. The auditor for NYU discussed with her her “acting” chops. So this did come as a surprise. So back to the choice of SUNY or Mason Gross until London comes around. If only she can get off the waitlist at Juilliard. But so unlikely.

NSB has BOTH straight acting and musical theatre. My son is in the straight acting program. He loves that he shares some of his acting classes with the MT students. Plus- look how expanded his world is with both MT and straight actors in his classes. NSB also offers a Physical Acting class which my son also absolutely loves. Here is the facebook page for their upcoming production. There are only about 10 students in this class and it’s a Greek classical play.

My son just got his a few days ago. He’s in the Atlantic studio

Hi all, my D also was placed into Atlantic! I’m excited if nothing more than it’s association with one of my all-time favorite directors, Mamet. Macy’s connection is pretty cool too. But does anyone know what is the decider on placement into a particular studio? What do they see in our kids that put them in Atlantic vs. Adler, NS or Meisner for instance?
