Hi, I’m an undergrad at a liberal arts school, who has been admitted to and is considering doing a summer course at Tisch. I’m planning to take the Sight & Sound workshop. (This is NOT the pre-college program.)
I researched a bit to find reviews/experiences from people who have taken this course to see what their thoughts on the program were, but there isn’t much information online, other than the brochure/promo stuff from NYU Special Sessions itself. Can anyone who has experience with the course share their thoughts?
***More background on me:
I’ve always been interested in filmmaking and considered film school, but chose the liberal arts education instead. My current school’s film program is relatively new and has an academic/theoretical focus, rather than a production one. Now, I am considering transferring to a film school, but I would like to test out my deep interest in filmmaking on a “trial period” before I commit to transferring.
***Worries about cost / actual benefits
But the tuition/housing costs of this course are. not. a. joke. It also does seem a little gimmicky – I know the basics of filmmaking, and I also know there are plenty of resources online to learn filmmaking. I also wonder if there is a difference in the quality of the education for non-degree summer students vs the legit normal academic year for film majors.
So I’m wondering if it’s worth it. I could just make stuff with friends and learn through practice. But on the other hand, I’d like to learn more intensively though, and test out the film school environment.
***Specific questions for people who have had this class
- What was the general quality of education? Have you learned/gotten much out of the course? Would you recommend it, even given its high cost?
- What kind of student/person would most benefit from a Tisch course through the summer?
- Did you feel that Tisch was a rewarding/supportive a resource as you would have hoped?
- Any other caveats/advice?
Thank you so much for any thoughts on this!
