I am currently writing the “why NYU” essay.
I’ve asked a total of two English teachers to proofread so far…
One is my actual AP Lit teacher and the other is a friend of my mom who works as an AP Lit teacher/Dean at another school.
After doing some research, I was able to find that NYU does not want to hear the generic “good for research, NYC” answer so I decided to focus it more on me and what I did during my HS career towards my intended major (job shadowing etc…)
When I showed both of them, they both told me to write more of the generic answers.
When I did write about the location and how I was always fond of big urban cities and what not, my teacher told me that I sounded like I was worshipping the city. He told me that I should focus on how I can contribute to the amazing city.
However, the other teacher is telling me that it is good and that New Yorkers have a sense of pride that their city is the best and wants to hear those kinds of things…
I am conflicted as to whether I should focus it more on me/major like I did the VERY first time I wrote it, or listen to my teacher, or the other teacher…
What should I do?
