NYU Tisch Film Portfolio

Hi, I'm a prospective student of NYU and was wondering if there was any advantage of doing a video portfolio over a piece of creative writing like a script...? Do they prefer that I send them a video or would a script be just as acceptable? will either increase my chance of acceptance?

[UG Film Portfolio: Tisch School of the Arts at NYU](<a href=“Undergraduate Admissions”>Undergraduate Admissions)

“Ultimately we are looking for evidence of your potential as a visual storyteller.”
Both are perfectly acceptable and I doubt there would be any advantage or preference over the other…
You are allowed to submit either options; remember, they have both options (among others) FOR A REASON. The point is that they want to see your potential in story telling and your skills in imaginative expression.

Submit whichever one that seems to represent your strengths best :]

Thanks  that makes sense…Would you know the average stats of film freshman? (maybe like grades/sats with respect to the university in general?)

…anybody?

…bump…

This probably won’t help but i think the average Tisch gpa is around 3.4-3.6 with SAT scores ranging 1870+ just based on observations from people who got in here.

excellent thank you :)

I just went to the Tisch open house. They basically explained you admission is 50% common application, testing scores, etc. and 50% portfolio. They are reviewed by two separate committees who communicate with one another. Usually, they explained, each committee will agree on their decisions. Apparently it’s rare that applicants who would normally get into NYU anyways to terribly on their portfolios. If the two committees disagree they get together and do a quick review to make a final decision. They also explained at this open house that they have absolutely no preference as to which medium you choose for part 2 of the portfolio, whether it be video, screenplay, or any of their other options. Remember you also have to submit a resume and a dramatic essay. Go on NYU’s website again and again and make sure you are following their requirements.
I’m applying to Tisch for film as well, and ED! It’s my dream school. But I know that even if I don’t get in this year as a freshman, I’ll apply again next year  Best of luck to us both!

Thanks! Good luck to you too!!
