NYU Tisch New Studio MT Acceptance Summer Program

I have just been waitlisted for the Tisch New Studio Musical Theatre Summer Program. I was wondering how often this will result in acceptance? (2019)

I attend this program last year as a rising junior! And we had a about 4 or 5 get off the waiting list! (that I know of) There were 42 New Studio students last year so maybe even more. The students who got off the waiting list were all rising seniors. I’m telling you this because if your a rising junior they may have a separate waiting list since seniors have priority on getting into the program. But we did have a lot of juniors attend. Maybe around 1/3. But if you don’t end up getting off the wait list you should look into CMU’s Pre College Drama MT Program. I just got accepted into this program a few weeks ago and I’m super excited!!! Hope this helps!!! If you have questions about either program please ask!!!

I was waitlisted at TISCH for MT and accepted at CMU for drama (MT). Given that you have been at TISCH, and are going to CMU, should I wait it out for TISCH, or take CMU. I am a rising junior. Your thoughts, please.

@2021MT2025 I think your talking to me lol. Honestly I would just go with CMU because it’s a definite yes and try NYU next year. But it honestly depends on what you want. These programs are pretty different. NYU focuses on you as an artist and building your confidence (well that’s what it did for me) there wasn’t a final product or anything (we did have a sharing night though). As for CMU they focus on your college audition. It’s going to help you with your songs and monologues that you have a will definitely give you more songs and monologues as well. What I love about CMU is that there is a mock audition at the end of the program and they give you constructive feedback. CMU is also two weeks longer than tye program at NYU. It honestly comes down to what you and your family want. I say go with CMU because it’s already set in stone that you have been accepted. Then try NYU or even MPluse next year there are so many summer programs that you can do! Please PM me of you have any other questions. And definitely let me know what you have decided. Because if it’s CMU we can officially meet!

@MuTh2024 Hi!! I am so sorry for getting back to you so late. Your reply was extremely helpful. I still haven’t agreed to CMU yet, and I got off the waitlist at NYU this morning. Being a rising Junior, I am not sure if CMU will do me the justice it does most people. I am open and extremely excited for both programs, what are your thoughts about it? What course do you think I should pick?

@2021MT2025 Hey!! No biggie! I think that doing the CMU program as a rising junior is very amazing! I honestly wish that I would’ve done CMU last year and NYU this year. I say this only because as a rising junior if you attend the CMU program you’ll have so much more time to work on the material (songs and monologues) that they give you for college auditions. As a rising senior I’ll only have a month then I’ll need to be recording/ submitting prescreens. Both of the programs are highly respected programs(so I’d actually like to say CONGRATULATIONS for getting accepted into both❤️), but it really just depends on what you and your family want. There is so much that goes into choosing a program honestly. NYU is 2 weeks shorter than CMU, the cost of attendance, location etc. Please please let me know what program you and your family ends up choosing!

@MuTh2024 Hii!! Thank you so much for your advice, it really helped when making a decision. My family and I decided to accept NYU. I’m really excited and looking forward to it. CMU just clashed with dates and wasn’t exactly what I was looking for. I have a few questions about NYU though, how many shows do you end up seeing, and what type of shows? Also, how is the day usually structured?

@2021MT2025 CONGRATULATIONS!!! You should be very proud of your self!!! So I saw 11 shows for free!!! 4 of the shows were through the drama program, and the other 7 where through the tisch program as a whole. I saw Log Cabin, Fire in Dreamland, Straight White Men, and Mean Girls through the drama department. I saw Wicked, Once on This Island, Waitress, The Phantom of the Opera, Hamilton Aladdin, and The Play that goes Wrong through the weekend/ evening events they offered to all students for free. The events aren’t guaranteed so it’s first come first serve. And I was luckily enough to get the opportunity to see all of these shows!! As for the day we had a block schedule everyday started off with Yoga at 9:30 and classes ended at like 5:30. Then you were free to do what you want!! Which is amazing because you really get the time to travel and do things in the city like got to Central Park for a bit then get food with friends. But you also should manage your time wisely, because you’ll have homework and you’ll have to study and rehearse. You’ll be divided into three groups based on dance level Group A,B and C I was in group A! We were the group with the least amount of dance training. ? don’t let this scare you or anything! We were still treated the same and everything. We weren’t looked down upon because of it either. And remember DON’T COMPARE YOUR SELF TO OTHERS!!! You are on a totally different journey then the next person. Below was my schedule groups schedule (A). Btw everyone had the same classes each group just had them at different times.

@MuTh2024 Thank you so much for your reply!! I’m so excited! This is extremely helpful, and I’m sure I’m going to be in the group with the least amount of dance training as well!! I’ll definitely reach out if I have any more questions. Have a great time at CMU, and let me know how it goes!!!

@MuTh2024 Hi again!! I hope you’re well. Just a quick question. At what point in the program is the visiting/family weekend?

@2021MT2025 The very last day of classes is open to all family and friends. I also forgot to tell you. You’ll have evening workshops on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s in all of the other performance studios. P&D do their own thing on these nights lol.

@MuTh2024 I’m attending this program this year and was wondering if you could like you Instagram or contact information? I have a few questions.
