NYU Tisch Tuition

Hello! So I’m currently a junior in high school but on summer break, so I want to take a lot of my time to figure out what colleges I want to apply/audition to (Music theatre)

So I’ve looked into a few colleges, but NYU Tisch has been my number one for a really long time, BUT a few things i have to keep in mind; not only are they super selective (obiously) but tuition is outrageous. Both of my parents are unemployed and can barely pay off the house we live in. I am working a part time job at Chili’s, but havnt gotten the chance to actually start storing for college tuition (I know, tisk tisk),not that college isnt a main prioritiy, but I have other priorities right now such as buying a car and my SAT and what not.

Bottum line, Tisch is my dream school, and cant swallow the fact that that dream is out of reach. Not to be all doubtful, but my parents probably cant even pay for an out of state State college (i live in Cali), and then I have to think not only tuition but how would I live on my own out there?

I come to ask is there any way, ANY way at all I could possibly find a way for tuition at NYU? (if I were to get accepted obviously, I just like to think ahead) I would IMMENSLEY appericiate any feedback or help at all.

Ive also been looking into Purchase, Price, UCLA, UCSD, Irvine, ACT, and USC

Daniel, annual costs to attend Tisch are in the vicinity of $62,000/yr currently, which means that by the time you would get there, it will be higher. For someone in the financial situation that you have described, I would advise against looking at Tisch as your dream school. Even if they were generous with financial aid, which they are typically not, you would be looking at very large student loans. It’s never advisable for students going into the theatre world to take on much debt. There are many schools, where you can get a good education, that are going to offer better financial aid for needy students.

If you can focus on getting the best grades possible and best SATs/ACTs, you will have more choices from schools offering packages. Don’t focus on one school as the dream school, because there are so many great schools out there and you are really limiting yourself with that approach. I totally agree that coming out of school with huge debt is a difficult way to start out in any field, but particularly in the arts.
