NYU Transfer Thread - Fall 2010

try it and save yourself the anxiety actually.

i got the netid :)

sweetttt!!! hahah, congratulations!!!

which major??

Guys, don’t get too excited because in past years, people who have been able to activate their NetIDs have been rejected, and people who have been accepted haven’t been able to activate them until late in the summer (even after they received their letters of acceptance). Just keep that in mind.

PS - I’m not saying this out of bitterness, because I was able to activate mine as well, but just don’t get over-zealous this early in the process. I would hate to be personally disappointed after getting my hopes up, and I assume you all would feel the same. Best of luck, nevertheless.

what is this net id and how do you get it ??

i never got one when i applied to nyu ???

The email you received after submitting your application had a number emboldened on it. It starts with a capital N and is followed by a stream of numbers. You go to the NYU log-in page and click on “Activate My NetID.” It asks for the University ID sent to you in the aforementioned email and asks you to enter your birthday and email address as well.

Sometimes it shows that an account has been made for you (hence you just activated it), but as I said before, it doesn’t automatically mean an acceptance/rejection either way. DON’T, by any means rely on it.

In fact, I advise against trying to activate it. Best to wait for a concrete answer.

hmm that’s weird … i didn’t have a number in the email i received ? it just mentioned that they received my application and looked forward to reviewing it

but if you advise against it i guess i wont worry about it

yo come on. if you get a netid then you’re in. every year’s thread is evidence of that

waittttttttttttttt

if you get the netid without the e-mail, why do you need to activate it???

like if you can get the two letter, three number, netid is that it? or do you need to go to some other screen after that???

i called yesterday and they told me i got into CAS! so excited!!

So if it’s not activated, that means I’m not in?

what so you mean by “activated”??

I believe that once you click on the “continue” tab after entering in all the required information, you see a net-id. If there is no net-id there/you haven’t been assigned one then they either haven’t reviewed your file yet or…

i just got my acceptance packet in the mail today =) !!!

accepted into CAS

excited beyond belief … now i just hope they give me a good FA package … i jsut realized that this school is like 50,000 a yr !!!

hmm is it worth it ??

you have to decide that yourself. lol, it is NYC so great internship opportunities!

i am thinking the same thing actually. but not because of the cost. i am just not a fan of the whole ‘no campus’ thing. might be difficult to integrate then…

@hookedongtown: Same here, the no-campus thing is what bothers me most. I actually do like university towns and all. But otherwise nyu is perfect. Have you received an admissions decision yet?

yea i get what your saying but I’ve had that “campus” experience for the last 2 years so i think it would be a welcoming change to have no real campus. plus NYU has about a million clubs and stuff so im not worried about the integrating thing.
im worried about paying a large amount of money … NYU charges as much as the ivies its a little ridiculous !! they are most deff not an ivy they need to stop acting like 1 !!!

I don’t think it has anything to do with being an Ivy or not–my last school cost just as much, and it’s a LAC in the middle of nowhere.

Well, when I tried to activate and receive a net ID, this popped up.

“Only current members of the NYU community are eligible to use
this function. Please make sure you have entered your NetID
(which looks like “aqe123”) and not your University ID Number
(which looks like “N12345678”). For more help please contact
the ITS Client Services Center at 1.212.998.3333.”

Hey everyone!

I finally got my acceptance letter/package/big white envelope today, Saturday 5/8.
I am a community college transfer student in New Jersey. I’m an English Education major, which would put me in Steinhardt - NYU. Also, the only reason I even applied to NYU is because I qualify for the CCTOP (community college transfer opportunity program), which is a potential $20,000/per year scholarship/transfer program for community college transfer students aiming for Steinhardt.

However, they didn’t include any of my financial aid information in there yet! I’m guessing this is because all that CCTOP stuff is still being processed and will be made available to me shortly. But I just thought I’d share the good news because I’m super excited about the chance to go to NYU!

I’ll post some brief stats in case anyone is wondering.

School: Steinhardt
Major: English Education
GPA: 3.96
Awards: Essay Contest Winner (at my CC) = $2500 scholarship
Phi Theta Kappa Member
Volunteer work: Over 150 hours as a Peer Tutor at my CC’s Tutoring Center
