First when you are transferring, do you have to show them your SAT and High School Grades or can you only do College grades?

Also if you apply as a freshman application and get rejected and apply as a transfer, is there still a way to get accepted?

Yes, you HAVE to show them your HS grades and SAT/ACT scores that you took in HS. If you take the tests again in college NYU will not consider them for your application. No matter when you transfer, either 2nd semester freshman year, sophmore year, or junior year, they will look at your HS grades. However, the longer you have been in college the less they will consider your HS grades.

And yes, if you applied as a freshman and were rejected you can apply as a transfer. NYU's policy is that you must wait one full year before applying again. If you applied as a senior in high school the deadline was something like Jan 15th right? The deadline for fall 2008 transfer is april 1st so you are eligible to apply again.

Thanks a bunch. If I horrible grades in high school (3.0 Weighted) and SAT scores (1600) and if I get a 3.5 or above in College, would I have a chance of acceptance as a transfer?

it is hard to say. what school at NYU are you applying to?

i am in a similiar situation (3.6 HS gpa and 1980 on SAT). i didnt get into to nyu as a freshman so i am working my ass off at a LAC and trying again. the website says they like to see a 3.7 or above, but just because you get below that doesnt really mean you dont have a chance. there are def. other factors they consider im sure beside college GPA. however, college GPA has a huge influence.

no matter what they say about high school gpa, your sat scores do matter. if it is evident you've scored less than around 1800 in high school-and event this is a stretch, it is unlikely you'll be admitted. (think about it, thats over a 300 point score difference from the average freshman student). unless, you have superior writing skills and explain to them how much you are dying to get in and assess other weak points in your application and how they in no way portray your abilities in school/etc. good luck!

edit: sorry, i assumed you were a stern applicant. if not, disregard whatever i just said. but yeah..a 1600 is still low.

ya, SAT scores really do matter. i went to the meeting they had for a college tour and the admissions officer who spoke kept stressing the importance SAT scores have. THEY MATTER. mine are pretty low, but hopefully i can redeem myself with my writing, college gpa, and recs.

well do i still have to send in my SAT scores, even if i'm in my 3rd semester of college????

I thought they only want SAT scores if you are applying as a freshman, but I'm applying as a sophmore.

Anyone have an answer?

yes, you have to send in your SAT scores again. i am applying as a sophmore too. its all on the admissions part of the website.

privates are stupid.

the UC system doesn't care about SATs or transcripts and transfers who arrive at these top public schools do not struggle to keep up with the high SAT scoring freshmans.

lol and dont tell me NYU coursework is more difficult than Berkeley (for those who want to defend these silly privates).

from what I've heard berkeley's liberal arts school is pretty easy and you're more prone to find dumb***es, in part due to their california residence advantage.

Speaking of SAT scores, my highest score is a 1970 (math + verbal is 1410), but when I applied for freshman admission they said they don't place much emphasis on the writing section. So would they still not place much emphasis on my writing score when I apply as a transfer.

no, they probably do not place much weight on the writing section for any applicant, not just freshman.

I posted a long post, and then it got lost, using ie with cc forums causes problems.

Anyways, I am not sure (Ill update this forum later), if NYU CAN tell if you took the sats or not. If you have sophomore standing at NYU, you do not have to submit the SAT/ACT, but I am not sure if they can find out whether or you have taken the test although they may not be able to obtain your scores due to privacy schools.

As for HS GRADES/RECORDS they take a look but do not consider it in the transfer application.

I have spoken with an admissions director at NYU about this, of course If I am wrong update me,

be back later - btw I am not an NYU student , I may become one- Ill have to ask/give advice in the forums later on.
