NYU/UCSB Admissions

Hi, so I am starting senior year next week, and am starting college apps, and have been looking at UCSB and NYU as choices for college. I’ve been wanting to go to both for a while and was wondering if I even have a shot of getting in.

My GPA weighted is a 4.3 (UC GPA is a 3.9), unweighted a 3.5.
I am taking 5 AP classes this year.

My SAT is a 2010 (2080 if superscored) and I got a 620 on the SAT Math Level II exam, which I’m retaking in October. The main reason I took it was because I received a D in my Honors Math Analysis class second semester, but I am redoing that semester in independent study! (During second semester, I was dealing with a lot of personal issues including clinical depression and a severe panic disorder, which I’m explaining in my essays.)

I’ve had a job since my sophomore year at a tutoring company called Kumon and I have been interning with a city council member this past summer and am continuing to do so during the school year.

I’ve been captain of my schools softball team for 2 years. I am in several clubs, including Red Cross, Make A Wish, and Spanish Honors Society, and probably am going to be a board member for one this year. I’ve done 100+ hours of community service and will be doing more.

As for what I am planning on majoring in, most likely business/economics or psychology, but I am not completely sure yet. I might end up applying as an undeclared major.

You are well-suited for UCSB, but your unweighted GPA is quite low compared to NYU’s average. I hope you do well for your independent study, and good luck!
