Hey, guys, I know it is too early to start this thread. However, I reckon this thread should be helpful for everyone. I am studying in the British curriculum, and am applying for the NYUAD Class of 2022. What about you guys? Have you started your nomination essays? am too excited for application journey ahead.
Same, super excited for the application process! Really hope I get in . I’m also studying the British curriculam, what are your stats?
I will be having my final exams(As level) soon and i believe my predicted grades will hit A*s. I am doing three subjects at the moment : physics, maths and computer science along with Extended Project Qualification(EPQ). I am actually from Nepal, but I stay in England. What about you @buzzbeebuzz ? What are your stats? Are you planning to do ACT/SAT?
Hi! I’m in Class of 2020 at NYUAD and I love to help prospective students. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions/concerns.
Hey @mightychondria . I have seen loads of your comments in nyuad threads. Hope u r enjoying at NYUAD.and most of all , your comments have always been helpful to me and everyone i guess. Coming to the question, can u pls make the way to write the nomination essay more clear?
Hey guys I’m also going to apply to nyuad class 2022 and I would like to know what exactly is a nomination essay? I know the common app and the nyuad essay but what is a nomination essay?
Hi there! @Judaskenobi @unifeva The nomination essay is part of the counselor nomination, an OPTIONAL piece before you apply, which your high school counselor submits. It basically recommends you as a good fit for NYUAD. More details can be found here. http://nyuad.nyu.edu/en/admissions/information-for-counselors/nomination-overview.html
So like a recommendation letter?
Be sure to read all of the information at the link provided. The counselor will submit the recommendation portion, and the student will complete the Student Writing Assignment which is found at the link above. “Write a formal, academic essay in which you imagine that you are in a position of leadership in your country or your local community (note that while many leaders who effect change are politicians, they can also be scholars, activists, scientists, artists, etc.). Choose an issue about which you, as this leader, feel passionately and describe it in detail…”
Hey all! So glad this group this thread was started! been wanting to talk to everyone for so long!
Hey guys! I have made this year’s Facebook group/forum for the '22 nyuad applicants! Please feel free to come and join! it’s a great place where each year applicants come together to discuss applications, give advice, support each other and go through the process together!
This year’s one is called NYUAD - Class of 2022 Applicants and you can join no matter if you are planning to apply ED1, ED2, or RD! I’ve personally been to NYUAD 3-4 times so I hope I can be of some help to you guys!
Hey @mightychondria thank you for all your advice! Do you know if we have to ask our councilor for the nomination or we just have to wait and see who they give it to?
@Melzarts I asked my counselor, because she had no idea that NYUAD existed and didn’t know anything about the nomination. Not sure what the case would be at other schools.
@mightychondria ah alright, my councilor definitely know all about NYUAD, and we have had them visit us. She also has known I’ve been sure about going there since the start of junior year but to be honest i’m kind of scared to ask my councilor because since i’ve talked to her so much about wanting to go there, I feel she might think i’m expecting her to nominate me, and she might get mad… I don’t know, she just has a certain type of personality, but anyways maybe I should just mention it to her
@mightychondria im thinking of applying to nyuad first choice and nyu nyc second choice, but the only thing is I wouldn’t know how to talk about both in the why nyu essay… should I do like 300 words about nyuad and 100 about nyu (nyc) ? Or…? What do you think? I’d really appreciate any advice!
@Melzarts I wish I could offer more specific advice, but it’s not like there’s a magic formula here. It really depends on how you’ve chosen to structure your essay, and everyone does it differently. My second choice was Shanghai, but pretty much focused my entire essay just on Abu Dhabi. But I’ve also heard of people who split the essay half and half between two campuses. You can always simply add a sentence or two expressing the idea of “While Abu Dhabi appeals to me for xyz reason, the NYC campus will provide similar opportunities to explore zyx field” or “While I would be a good fit in Abu Dhabi for xyz reason, NYU’s global network, including the NYC site, would provide further opportunities to develop zyx interest”. Whatever you think best represents your personal qualities and interests. The great thing about the NYUAD application is that it’s evaluated holistically and every individual is so different, so there’s really no single right way to go about it.
@mightychondria ahh I know what you mean, thanks a lot!
@unifeva @buzzbeebuzz @Judaskenobi Hey guys! I’d love for you to join our NYUAD applicants facebook group! Its called “NYUAD - class of 2022 applicants” if you wanna check it out❤
Hello guys, i am glad to see this thread doing fine. I am very excited about every bit of this application process. Just wanted to know if is it okay to use the mid year report and predicted grades to fulfill the standardized test requirement for NYUAD ???
Hey! I think it should be fine but it may depend on your school curriculum, for IB thats how we do it @unifeva
