JDog -
This is an excerpt from my livejournal from right after o-week (sorry for the length, but hey - you asked!):

Sunday was move-in day! We drove to the campus and I was really excited/scared the whole drive there (about ten minutes). When i got there, there were people from the different colleges holding up signs and directing traffic. I saw a "Honk if You're Will Rice!" poster and the girl holding it was jumping up and down when the car behind me honked. So I pulled into the lot and the whole group of advisors cheered for my car. I started to cry, because I was just so overwhelmed. I met my advisors, but I can hardly remeber meeting them at all that day...it's all just a blur. So I met bunches of people: the college masters and president and coordinator and the RA's. I got keys and the general announcements and a t-shirt and a folder and a button to wear. Then I moved in to my gorgeous room, met my roommate, etc. I had brunch with my family and then said goodbye...That afternoon and evening, we had matriculation, which was really cool and played a million getting to know you games, both in our o-week group and not.

Monday was really, really busy. English comp exam, trip to target, faculty address, Rice/Baylor orientation, cheer practice, chug practice (speed water drinking, not quantity beer drinking),a small party (w/o alcohol...you can get expelled for posessing alcohol during orientation, more on that later), loads of other stuff that I have since forgotten.

Tuesday: I'm realizing right now that I don't realy remember which day was which. So here's what I might have done on tuesdsay. Had my photo taken for ID cards (which came out surprisingly well), went to a group discussion on diversity which was actually really fun, met our faculty associates and had an academic fair, we visited the president of the university's house, met his family and toured his house. At 1:30 am we went to a sketchy mexican restaurant.

Wednesday: We saw a play about people who did stupid things at a party (drank a lot, did drugs, had sex, etc.) and then regreted it later. After that me met with the police and EMS. Now completely convinced that rice is a SCARY place, we learned about cheating, and why we shouldn't do it. Then I met with my advisor who is exactly like Dr. Mince (!). Bascially, he ok'd my idea for a schedule and then recommended books for me to read, people to talk to, etc. It was good. We played sardines in a huge academic building late at night as well.

Thursday was pretty relaxed: We basically just hung out until around 1 pm, when we talked to the college president about the university alcohol policy. For dinner that night we ate in other colleges to get to know other people. The one i went to was fairly bad, but it made me feel better about the food where I live! Then we had a mini baseball game against the other colleges. We had a baseball player on our team! A real one, who was on fox sports net the other night! We still lost though. Then we had a big, crazy scavenger hunt. Some of the more interesting things on the list were: A person with no eyebrows, a guy in victoria's secret, the mayor of houston on the phone talking about how great lovett college is, someone on the radio talking about how great lovett college is, the university president (in person at lovett college), the whole orientation group wearing only shaving cream, a person with blue hair or skin, flavored condoms (must taste), the city of chicago (no one got that one), a person walking on their hands, etc. Fun times.

Friday we took tests about the honor council, registered for classes, walked around campus (2 of my advisors were tour guides!). We dressed up our advisors in crazy costumes for an advisor fashion show, then went to a nice mexican restaurant and went to the weirdest place ever. It was this smoky bar/dance hall with a lot of middle aged people in cowboy hats two-stepping. I was weirded out. a lot.

Yesterday was Outreach Day, so I went and played with some kids in Hermann Park (kind of like central park) and then at Rice. It was fun except the kids weren't into it. At one point we were playing some game and this girl says "Hey! Have you noticed it's only the grown-ups playing? all the kids think this game is dumb!" and when we looked around it was just us playing, and the kid were sitting around talking to each other... oh well. Also yesterday was dis-o. Like I said, alcohol is NOT allowed durning o-week. So people make up for lost time at dis-o (disorientation). Also, all the upper classmen moved in yesterday, so they were ready to party as well. It was alright...except for the part where some weird drunk guy tried to grab me. I had half a shot of peppermint schnapps which doesn't taste like alcohol, but does taste like the strongest ever mouthwash, and that was it. My advisor got very drunk, and actually fell into my dorm room while i was on the phone with my mother! It was half totally shocking and half hilarious.

Sid's Theme for next year is Towering InfernO Week.
You're coordinators and advisors are great. Should be fun. No matter what college or what theme, O-Week is like summer camp. Summer camp on crack,
