I got an email about this program and i am just wondering if joining the programs is worth it. I am still a bit unclear about what OASIS is and what it would require me to do and how it would benefit me if i were to join. The one thing that really caught my eye was the weekly 4 hour sessions, I mean 4 hours seems like a lot. Information/experiences about this program would be really helpful thanks!

OASIS really benefits people who are not-so-great at time management and need someone to sit them down and go over stuff. It’s basically mandatory group tutoring – “mandatory” in the sense that attendance is enforced at the risk of getting kicked out of the group. Some people (like me) find the environment to be too constricting; I prefer to learn at my own pace and address questions by seeking out friends/TAs/professors on my own time. Plus, you can often get better test prep ideas from those who are officially affiliated with the class.

OASIS/Summer Bridge Program is extremely worth it. Summer Bridge is an academic transition program for incoming college freshmen after high school. During this program, you will have an opportunity to mingle and meet other incoming freshmen in a safe and nurturing environment. Some of the courses you will take are math and writing to prepare you for the demand of UCSD academics. Not only will you get a leg-up in academics (the 8 units you earn from taking the math and writing courses will give you a +8 unit start on everyone else, hence giving you earlier class registration time), but you will also gain great friendship/connections that will last throughout your college and post college life! :). OASIS is tutor-based academic program to further assist you during your years…they have tutors for courses such as math, chemistry, physics, etc. I participated in some of these courses and they were helpful in helping me do well in my classes! Overall, join summer bridge/oasis if you can. YOU WON’T REGRET IT :)

^ thanks for the input, did you ever find the weekly four hour sessions bothersome or time consuming???
