Oberlin Notification

Today I received my Oberlin CAS acceptance.. and I looked on the Master List and saw that VP decisions have been coming in.

Is this safe to say that I will receive one (either rejection/acceptance - I'm thinking the first ;)) in the coming days? I live in Arkansas, if that's any indication. Or are they sending out acceptances first?

Thanks, this totally threw me for a loop (I just arrived home from a trip). Can anyone provide insight?

Some info here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/671135-when-will-they-come.html</a> in posts 55-60. Should be any day. Good luck.

Thanks violadad; I’ve taken a look at that thread. Are they emailing rejections as well?

Like I said, this totally threw me for a loop (and they gave me great financial aid). I might be getting my hopes up!

BassDad had indicated in that series of posts that they are emailing them, as well asvia snail mail. None of the recent Oberlin additions to the Master List indicated how they were notfied. I’m sure someone with an acceptance will pop in and recap how it came.

Several people who got accepted reported receiving notice via email. I have not heard from anyone reporting a rejection, but I do not know if that is because no one has bothered to report that they were rejected via email or because the rejections are coming only by US Mail.

Thanks, BassDad. I had kind of put Oberlin into the back of my mind because of my horrendous aural skills test, but getting the acceptance into the college reignited some feelings.

This process is so hard.

Keep in mind that most conservatories do not expect incoming students to be great at theory/aural skills. I’m sure you’ll be fine!
By the way, I got my acceptance through email. They mailed official results on Thursday I believe. From what I know, they are still working on emailing out acceptance notifications (I don’t know about rejections). One of my friends did a regional in January and hasn’t heard back yet. So don’t feel bad about this! I’ll keep my fingers crossed! :)

Georgeanne, they may be accepting based on certain disciplines. My son was accepted via email Thurs. for jazz, and has another jazz friend who also was accepted that day. hey both received their packets/aid info today. Another dual degree cellist friend heard about his college acceptance, but has yet to hear about the cello. So it sounds like they may be notifying by discipline/instrument. Waiting is the PITS! Good luck!

My S. also received a nice email Thurday and a package with scholarship offer in the mail on Saturday.

Greetings; on or possibly before Thursday admissions began, individually, emailing acceptances. A mail package with merit award arrived at our house on Saturday.

I don’t know how they are notifiying rejections or wait lists. I did correspond briefly with the admissions director, it was clear he was sending emails one-by-one, after the packet had been mailed. Could easily be an ongoing process. As of late Thursday evening, he had many, many emails yet to go… and I didn’t get the impression he had a work study student helping him!

Good luck!

Thanks, AdvisorMom. I’m getting a little antsy as I haven’t received one of these coveted emails. Ah, well. It’s not in my hands now.

Georgeanne-
D has not heard from Oberlin yet either. She took it out of consideration after a bad audition. She is sure she will not get an acceptance. She knows of others who play the same instrument and auditioned the same day that did receive an e mail for acceptance last week. We feel that they could be sending acceptance through e mail and rejections through the mail. But, d did not get a CAS acceptance like you did. Hang in there!

“We feel that they could be sending acceptance through e mail and rejections through the mail. But, d did not get a CAS acceptance like you did. Hang in there!”

Just wanted to post for those going through this next year. Our hunch was right, d received her rejection letter on March 30. It would be good if anyone who did not get an email acceptance, but got a snail mail acceptance to post that result for those going through this next year! D is okay about the rejection, completely expected it. As she said, “I would be more concerned about the program if they did offer me an acceptance after my audition!” ;)

Having twins, I get a unique perspective. D1 got an acceptance from Oberlin via e-mail (and a packet later arrived by snail mail). D2 got waitlisted and only received the snail mail notification.

sounds like u have been accepted to me, since you said they gave you great financial aid! i hope it works out for you:) its an awesome school!! (con)

and to jodibacon!! As the mom of triplets…thankfully with completely different abilities in all areas…OMG!! How in the lord did you survive two talented music students??? Such a major congratulations to you from me, on how much you had to have helped them get where they are:) Your kids have a wonderful list of schools to choose from…knowing what the whole “multiple” thing is…I am sorry, that the right schools didnt pick the right kids! I swear I’ve spent the last 22 yrs trying to make it even steven, lol. You and I know its not possible:)

WTG on the great success of ur twins:)

Thank you, papagena. At least I had the foresight to make everyone choose a different instrument! To tell the truth, if I had known how stressful this would be, I might have steered them away from music. But then again, they have that inner drive that probably can’t be squelched. My older son, a sophomore at Oberlin Conservatory, is also a music major, in percussion performance. I had only wanted to make sure my children grew up with a love and appreciate of music and would attend symphony concerts with me. I didn’t mean to create monsters! Now I worry about their ability to find a job some day and make a living. My husband (a salesman) and I (a teacher) might be supporting them for a long time. But at least we’ll have musical entertainment at family get togethers! Now my problem is what to do with my youngest son. He is 14 and showing signs of following in his siblings’ footsteps. He has been invited to the National Trumpet Competition for two years in a row…How do I get him to want to be an engineer or a chemist???

I can’t imagine how hard it must be with triplets. Congratulations for even just surviving their childhood! Good luck to you and to your kids. I wish I had discovered this forum earlier. I could have used this help and support all along!

Jodibacon –

You only need one big star and that one can support all of you!

I hear that medical school LOVE music majors so there’s hope if it doesn’t work out.
