A friend of mine's son did the pre-screening for Oberlin's early review in voice, which was due on Nov. 1. They haven't heard anything back yet, and need to make travel arrangements if he gets an audition (which is in three weeks).

Has anyone else heard about whether they have been invited for an audition yet? Do any voice people remember how long after Nov 1 they heard last year? She doesn't want to call the school, but I told her I could get the inside story ;)!

I am currently at Oberlin's parents weekend. One of the events tomorrow afternoon is a Q&A session with the Dean of the Conservatory. I can ask him when the live audition notifications go out if you like.

If your friend wants to stay at the Oberlin Inn which is the only hotel within walking distance of the Conservatory, I recommend making reservations immediately and canceling them if necessary. If they do not mind staying a 15-20 minute drive away, they will not have any trouble finding a place after getting the official word. That does not help with plane tickets, if needed, but at least they will have a place to stay.

According to the Dean of the Conservatory, everyone should be notified one way or the other at least two weeks before the audition date. The voice teachers are still listening to the pre-screening recordings and making decisions about who they want to bring in for the next round. Voice is their most competitive major, with hundreds of applications for only 18 spots this year. Early review auditions start 11/30, so they should hear something in under a week

Thanks, BD! I will tell my friend! Wow, on that many applications, but her son is a tenor, at least, which I guess is better odds than all the sopranos!

We have travel arrangements to make for schools that require pre-screenings too, but nothing on as short notice as two weeks! Seems like a lot to put together on such short notice!
