I sent something to the admissions office in February. I didn’t ask about notification, but the regional admissions rep who responded mentioned that decisions would be out in late March.
The decisions tend to be sent out during Oberlin’s spring break- which is next week.
Was anyone invited to their fly in program for minorities? A few people got it last year and I haven’t seen any comments here
@Rathination Do you mean Access Oberlin or is this another program that you are referring to? Is it a fly in program before or after applying? If you mean the one before, I attended Access Oberlin in December 2014, and I’m a prospective student waiting for the Fall 2015 semester results!
I applied for it too but I was rejected. Apparently, Oberlin offers a fly in for minority students applying rd. I’m just being anxious I guess. Food luck guys!
Good luck everyone! On Oberlin’s CDS, a lot of kids had GPAs in the 3.0-3.5 range, more than LACs of similar test scores. Are most of those kids conservatory students (Which would be strange because the acceptance rate for the conservatory is lower than for the College of Arts and Sciences), or does Oberlin just accept students from a wider range of GPAs?
@Cosmological I think some of those students are conservatory students. The conservatory is very selective from a musicial standpoint but I think occasionally lets a GPA slide if I student is exceptional musically. Also, I get the feeling Oberlin reads very hollistically and values extracurriculars and volunteer work, etc. They weigh these things as well/ as heavily as GPA more so than other schools.
If I got into Brandeis (Just a data point) with a 3.4 UW (89/100) and a 2270, an 800 on Physics and 750 on Math 2, and I’ve taken 5 AP courses and 7 honors courses over 4 years with an upward trend, and my ECs are pretty standard/good, how do you think my chances are? I think my essay was pretty creative for the Oberlin prompt, and I think that I wrote a pretty good essay for my Common App as well.
@Cosmological, my son was accepted ed with a 3.3. as annaisabella points out, it seems like there’s a holistic review process in place. Having said that, he did have some tangible quantitative strengths including a 2100+ test score and a strong upward trend in his gpa ending in a 3.8 his first quarter of senior year (the last quarter reviewed for ED). Throw in a really strong essay, interesting ECs and strong teacher recommendations and maybe it’s not surprising he was admitted. But we’re still surprised and thrilled!
good luck to you!
@Rathination Don’t worry about it I’m sure you will be fine! Best of luck!
@Cosmological , no one can say for sure but I think you have a great chance. Both my kids were admitted with similar stats.
I went to their fly-in back in November. Idk if that’s what you are talking about.
@TheOtterOne does the access Oberlin program help our chances?
What about w a 31 and a 3.71?
@Laufr95 I believe so
Decisions were released via email on Mar 26 last year. That was a Wednesday. Today is a Wednesday. ???
@gminor Ah I just got so nervous.
presto is doing a software update from 5-6 pm today (not sure what time zone)- maybe they’re preparing to upload after that?
Someone on the general admissions board says tomorrow
My D got her email acceptance very early on March 27 last year which was a Thursday.
