^Yeah! I was bummed that I missed Los Campensinos and the rest of Clockenflap. My friends met a lot of people there.

And Cake is alright too. I have a few songs from them- Wheels? and Distance… i think.

I want some cake. :[

you’re very observant, fuzzleshnops.

Why indeed I am! :D

I just made that my facebook status.

“you’re very observant, fuzzleshnops.”

Hey, I want cake too. I don’t like bands that are named after food now.

I bet many people were confused.

Well of course you don’t outright like it because it’s hipster-laced. That would be outright self-deprecating, to admit such a thing! Do I think the subconscious elements are at work here? Yes. And your casual explanation as to why you like MGMT seems something similar to what a Jonas Brothers fan would say…

I know, I’m not talking about obscure indie anymore. I’m not even sure what that really means, but all I’m really talking about is the emerging “indie” trend a la Pitchfork and NME. As someone who has followed the history of music for years, I will say this: it is but another trend that comes and dies, and as usual with these trends, the music is far more glorified than how it should be. As nature tends to, however, things revert back to the norm and people realize that Vampire Weekend and the such aren’t musical geniuses.

Why an artist like Phoenix gains huge popularity befuddles me as much as why an artist like Ke$ha gains huge popularity. Actually no, it’s no secret. They are both simple artists appealing to simple and large niches in music tastes. Only the former gets revered as actually being something special, whereas the same that revere Phoenix trash Ke$ha for being trashy and talentless.

^Dude, you are overthinking it.

I hate Ke$ha because her music hurts my ears and her lyrics are awful. I like Phoenix because I like their sound–IDK specifically why, but listening to their music makes me happy.

I DON’T CARE–If Phoenix was as popular as Ke$ha, I’d still like them. If Ke$ha was obscure, I’d still hate her.

I don’t even understand your convoluted argument–you don’t sound smart, if that’s what you are trying to do.

There are no “subconscious elements” at work.

Obviously, arguments for liking music can be similar, even if for different artists…

Probably the stupidest thing I’ve ever read. I didn’t even know what a hipster was til I looked it up. Sorry, I don’t like some, and wear tight jeans, or whatever else is entailed. I just like the music. Once again, stop overthinking it.

I don’t have a huge knowledge of music to give a great explanation. My “casual explanation” was to explain that I don’t care how society views the artists, or how much airplay it gets. Plus, MGMT is popular, haha.

I barely look at those sites. But when I do, I search the bands, and MAKE MY OWN CHOICE.

Who claims VW to be genuises? I like them, but by no means consider them geniuses. Most genuises in music seem to be more classical, anyways…What are you even talking about? You honestly make no sense.

Dude, there are so many reasons bands suddenly become popular–that a song becomes popular. No one knows for certain. It’s fine if you don’t like both. I happen to like the former and hate the latter, but hey, that’s just me. :)

So…?

IDK about “special,” but I do think they are talented. I mean, Ke$ha is sorta trashy…talentless, IDK yet. Like Lady Gaga has a legit voice, if you hear her a capella, but I still hate her music…

Anyways, you sound like a pretentious jerk. What music do you like?

Vampire Weekend may not (or may) be musical geniuses, but some people like their songs and their esthetic. Is it really that difficult to understand why? In a time when so many bands either spew out a new philosophical treatise in each song or can’t go two lines without mentioned death, it’s sometimes nice to have a band that’s sunny and contented, and doesn’t take itself too seriously. I’m not a Vampire Weekend fan by any stretch of the imagination (no, I like that super-serious stuff) but it’s not hard to understand why they’re so popular. In fact, I think they’re really just part of a much larger trend in that direction…

^I like them :)

I am about to listen to their new album. I think it’s nice to listen to both more “sunny” stuff and more “super-serious” (aren’t you special, haha) stuff…whatever that means, anyways.

Are you saying super-serious always mentions death? If so, I disagree.

^Hyperbole. And it was just an example.

^Uh, okay. What music do you like, in general? I’m curious now. :)

You should check out Small Leaks Sink Ships they just released a new single http://www.myspace.com/smallleakssinkships

=When I was playing FIFA 09 for the first time. I haz Indie Cred!

HAHAHA

<a href=“Dropout - Independent, ad-free, uncensored comedy | Dropout”>Dropout - Independent, ad-free, uncensored comedy | Dropout;

I got a real headache from this…

^ O.o I hope that’s fake.

Indie music is way too mainstream. Every hipster and his brother is into it.

Given that everyone advocates for Indie music because it’s NOT “mainstream,” I deem this to be a complete market failure.

Infected Mushroom all the way.

Most indie music is mainstream now. (It’s hilarious when people still call Death Cab obscure indie. I guess indie doesn’t mean what it used to any more. It’s more a ~style~ of music now. So I guess you could call Smith Westerns or Foals indie…they’re not underground anymore, but they’re “indie-sounding”.
