Obstinate Hopeful Hoyas

I'm not sure what all my letter will entail, but I'm going to use it to (1) express my strong desire to attend G-town and (2) update my application with recent achievements, awards, etc.

I didn't like my interview at all. Can't really explain it...it was just uncomfortable and akward. It started out alright, with him asking me some political questions; I responded, but he took a very dismissive tone which irritated me (he was on the opposite end of the spectrum from me). After telling me that he hated SFS (the school he went to and the school I'm applying to), he asked me a few quick questions about myself (nothing in depth) and the rest of the time I was asking him about G-town. He had some good advice, but I felt that it could have gone better, and that he could have asked a lot more about me.

That's weird . . . if he hated SFS, I wonder why he's spending his time doing Gtown interviews? Anyways, I just wanted to say to everyone who's been posting in the Gtown forums, you guys are awesome. Now I'm off to go achieve things so I can write about it to Gtown, lol. Be back later.

joshh...that's weird. what was he, liberal and you were conservative? or were you liberal and he was opposite?

I felt much, much better about my Dartmouth interviews than my Gtown interviews.

LoL is it possible to just send a whole new application?

I think my test scores killed me, if anything.

My interview was wonderful, except for that whole attempted murder thing. Damn people off the street trying to kill me for no reason when I did nothing..

Uhm..

Yeah, my test scores were probably the downfall of my application.

My interviewer was pretty conservative, and I consider myself slightly left-of-center (but not in the extreme, by far). Our differences wouldn't have been that detrimental to the interview if he hadn't taken a "Yeah, I know what you crazy liberals say, and you're wrong" type attitude. I think he put me into the "crazy liberal" category as soon as I told him that I would vote for Kerry over Bush. When we were discussing the Bush tax cut, and I quoted some statistics about the tax cut distribution, he remarked, in a somewhat condescending tone, that he was glad that I at least knew the numbers. And when I said that I thought the FairTax idea (23% national sales tax, abolotion of the income tax) might be viable alternative to the national income tax, he told me how consumption taxes hurt the poor and to make sure that I research what I'm talking about. Thankfully, we didn't talk about politics for too long.

BTW, tlaktan, I was promoted to full Col. today. :) That'll be a nice addition to my G-town app...

nice, josh!

not to make this the 20/20 hindsight thread...but I'm going to have to say my lack of anything substantial in math and science hurt me...not "well rounded", I guess you'd say

Congratulations! I'm pretty sure you got your load for you as a Col. :)..

Hahaha.. I've been "full bird" (ala Cadet O6) for about 6 months right now... and a "light colonel" (ala Cadet O5) for a year.

Position of (I think you guys call yourselves Flights?) Flight/Battalion Commander is always hard. I'm sure Georgetown will see both our command experiences.. (How could we be overlooked? :))

Thanks. :)

Actually, the Air Force equivalent of the Army's Battalion is a Group. If I'm correct, in the Army it's Platoon, Company, Battalion. In the Air Force, it's Flight (Platoon), Squadron (Company), Group (Battalion).

Right now I'm the Operations Cmdr. (#3 in command)--I oversee the day-to-day activities and the people that are in charge of each specific area (recruitment, public affairs, finance, etc.). I'm also the Special Assistant to the SAIS (Senior Aerospace Science Instructor), which entials a lot of odd jobs and helping out our Col. with his computer problems. :)

Last year I was the Deputy Group Cmdr., #2 in command. I was position-promoted to Lt. Col. at the beginning of that year, and have held that rank 'till now. Now I've got the full bird, lol. Since the semester is about to change (and our Chain-of-Command changes with it), I'm hoping for one of the top jobs again. My class as a whole has been very active in ROTC, and there are several other high-ranking cadets besides me, which makes it a little competitive for the top spots. :)

Anyway, I'm including a rec. from my SASI with my updated G-town info. I may also throw in an essay about ROTC and my future plans regarding the military to add another dimension to my app.

Ah. I'm sorry, I'm not too familiar with the structure of the Air Force JROTC program. My mistake. :)

How come you are not Group Commander? Typically, from my understanding, only one person in the battalion/group carries the rank of full bird Cadet Colonel, and that's the Commander.

In our district of 6,000 J.R.O.T.C. cadets, only one is allowed the rank of C/COL (Cadet Colonel).. this year, it happens to be me..

Hrm.. Best of luck to you as they reshuffle your CoC.. My chain of command has stayed relatively the same .. lol.. no it hasn't. I've been through at least Four Sergeant Majors (they all left due to academic problems and such), three Executive Officers (one graduated, the other one is my current, and another one.. she had problems with one of the cadets).. two administrative S-1 officers, three training and operations officers (your job, basically, the S-3).. three supply and logistics officers, and two public relations officers.

Then again, I've been in command for a little over a year and a half now, so.. things change.

I got deferred at FLL. I got SAT IIs French 800, Spanish 800, Italian 800 (this morning)
Do you think I'll get in RD? (Hispanic Multinational, 1300) .
Thks guys. Congrats to all who got in!

As I said in my last post, my class was especially involved with JROTC--right now we actually have 3 C/Col.'s in the graduating class. I've been told that this is the first time that there has ever been three. One is Group Cmdr., one Deputy Group Cmdr., and me, Ops Cmdr. I might have been able to get the top spot 1st semester this year if I had pressed for it, but w/ my involvement w/ other things I felt it best to take a slightly lesser role and see what happens when the CoC is shuffled around for 2nd semester.

Anyway, just FYI I'm going to take a hiatus from this board for a little while so I can focus on college apps and enjoy my winter break without the constant worry over college that this board seems to evoke from me. :) I also need to build up an interest in other schools and "get over" G-town as my chances of being a Hoya are looking a little slim. I just need to see other colleges. :)

you know what i thought of the other day...sending a tape of myself singing "Hopelessly Devoted to You" replaced with a whole bunch of Georgetown lyrics. I made them up, then chickened out of actually doing it. haha

Haha. That's awesome. I was trying to come up with something original to send, but was discouraged when I heard what Swarthmore kids were sending in to "help" their app. Among others, I think there was a ham involved, pineapple baskets, and just lots of food. If that doesn't come close to desperation...

!! yeah food is a little bit desperate...

"But now...Hoyas out of left field
No they're not gonna yield
I'm out of my seat
Hopelessly devoted to Georgetown Class of 09
Hopelessly devoted to 09"

it just sounds better and better doesn't it??? :)
