Hello fellow WashU students. I was looking for some insight regarding taking OChem over the summer. I heard that orgo at WashU way overdoes it in preparing you for the MCAT and I am double majoring in two majors that are NS-centered, so I don't have room to accommodate all the classes I want to take in a regular year and still fill my distribution requirements, which forces me to take some summer courses. That being said, is it advisable to take OChem over the summer (considering that the size of OChem is about half of Gen Chem 112, it is safe to assume that a lot of people do it)? Also, I would prefer to take orgo at a school of WashU's caliber. I was hoping I could do it in my home state, but Rice doesn't offer it over the summer.

I looked at listings for other schools, but many don't offer the full sequence over the summer (2 quarters, or 2/3 at Stanford). Some of the colleges that offer the full sequence are UPenn (spread over 6 weeks; heard from a sophomore here who did it last summer and told me it was very doable), Harvard (full year over 9 weeks) & WashU's very own (each semester in 4 weeks).

I feel like if I take orgo at the top schools, it will be invariably hard, but I don't know if the necessary material will be covered well if I do it at a state school or cc. Any thoughts?

Thansk :)
