anyone make any improvements?

i raised my math from 650 to 690, and (even though it really doesnt matter) my writing from 640 to 650

My son's results:

Critical Reading: From 630 to 650

Math: From 740 to 750

:)

Congrats br and GA's son. Great improvements.

Shows that taking them again really helps.

My daughter couldn't take that particular SAT, (out of town for a band competition) so she took the ACT this last weekend. I think we have about 2 weeks to wait.

Wow congrats guys. This is my first post here but I have been reading a lot here and would just like to say thanks for everyone that contributes with all the advice and tips. Here are my scores. This was my first SAT but I did take an SAT prep course prior to the Oct SAT.
I got these scores on my first Diagnostic
490 Math
530 Verbal
520 Writing
For a whopping total of 1540 haha
During the class I improved a lot and found out new techniques and on the SAT got.
650 Math
600 Verbal
590 Writing
On this next one I'm going to try to get my Verbal up. I hope I can get up to par with yall. But if you are thinking about taking an SAT prep course I would highly recommend it because I obviously improved a lot and I still think I can improve. Well good luck to yall on this weekends SAT! Oh can someone tell me where I stand with those scores compared to the USNA profile because my computer won't open .pdf for some reason.

Class of 2010 Profile:

Score Ranges (Verbal & Math)

700-800 (31-36) .............................. 23% 30%
600-699 (26-30) .............................. 46% 54%
<600 (<26) ..................................... 31% 16%

Just an added note, they tell you to take the Writing portion, but they don't seem to be looking at it yet. My daughters log in page for admissions only showed her Math and Verbal.

Thanks GreatAmerican... it looks like I'm in the average range. Not bad

Hey guys I know this isn't really pertaining to the topic but this profile is very interesting. http://www.collegeboard.com/prod_downloads/about/news_info/cbsenior/yr2005/03_v&m_percentile_ranks_gender_ethnic_0506.pdf

My son concentrated on the math this past SAT, got it up 10 points, but tanked on the English dropping 60 points this time around. Does anyone know how that is viewed by the admissions folks? Do they just look at the highest score in each category? Or is it always the composite score?

I can't really tell you how they look at it, but the math and verbal scores are shown on the admissions page separately, and tests taken are there. Writing scores don't show up at all, at least for 2011.

They probably understand when they see one score go up and the other go down.

socaldreamers,

The Naval Academy’s Admissions Board uses the highest combination of verbal/critical reading and math scores from all SAT or ACT tests taken by a candidate. Students often see a considerable test score improvement on a second or third attempt at both tests. Therefore, candidates will normally enhance their competitiveness simply by taking both the SAT and the ACT more than once. Don't sweat the low CR score on the last test.
