***Oct 2014 SAT (US ONLY)***

@CoolCactus oh awesome!
@glasshours‌ Mostly just focusing on vocab for now when I can
@humbugs‌ no, wbu? I’m a junior. But I’d really rather not take it a third time if possible.

Since I mainly need CR and M, I’m working mostly CR vocab and passage reading and doing my main math curriculum to help with math prep. I’ll take a full test probably next week. Agh. My finances are on the line!

Wow, only a few weeks before the test already

@humbugs‌
yup about 3 weeks

Eeep. My CR is going to be interesting. My worst part is long passage reading, mainly figuring out the tone of the passage, main idea, etc. Do any of you have tips?

I’m taking the SAT in October for hopefully the last time. I completely blew June, and this is my last chance to qualify for a scholarship I need, so I’m completely on edge about this. CR is my best subject and math is my worst. I really want to get at least 700 in math; the main thing that’s holding me back is I take too long and run out of time :(

GodsGem322 - I got 760 on CR in June and never score below 750 on practice tests. What works for me on the general passage questions is to write a little commentary as I read through the passage (i.e “negative tone here”, “opposed to this”).

do you guys know how to anser the hard questions lol. I know it sounds weird, but I get everything else right; I dont miss easy, or medium level ones, but I get around half of the hard ones wrong, which drops my score slightly below 700 for cr.

One of my main “tenets” while doing CR is to remember that the answer has to be supported by the text. A lot of the hard questions have answers that sound plausible with a little inference, but the real answer is always directly supported by the text. If you find yourself trying to infer an answer, I would be very wary.

I’ve also found that that the correct answer is almost always quite obvious if you don’t overanalyze. The more I read between the lines, the more mistakes I make. Not sure if this will work for you but it’s worth a try :)

This will sound so stupid to you guys, but I just found out my calculator had a fraction key. XD My best section is my CR, and Math is my worst when you don’t consider the essay for the writing section. My main problem with CR is the tone/author intends to portray type questions. Math, I think I’ll do better on if I clamp down on it. We’ll see.

My current best section is also CR, with math and writing about tied, give or take 10 points. Hopefully I can raise my score on math too ;)

Dang talk about time. Just got back my ACT score from september and looks like I’m gonna have to take the SAT soon. Hopefully I can pull a 700+ in cr and that my math and writing are still fresh cause the last time I took the SAT was in January of last year. Borrowing the blue book from my friend, so hopefully I don’t remember anything and can still redo the tests.

Oh gosh only 3 weeks left!

Anyone wanna guess if the curve is going to be harsh (or lenient)? Don’t know wether the curve will be too harsh in October.

CR is my best score with math and English close (give or take 10 points haha) but im hoping to get math up so that my M+CR is higher. Pray 4 me guys

I’m sure some of you remember me. that june sat really killed me. I feel I can take the next step and get an 1850+. However, I am struggling with some hard math. If anyone can please help me with sec 5 numbers 17 18 19 20 and sec 8 question 12, I’d appreciate it. Thank you. https://app.box.com/s/2py79ser2pu4h2dczlx3

@sat2014 - Section 8 Question 12: vertex is at (2, 3) and they tell you that the line also passes through point (4, -5). Use the slope formula to get A) -4.

(y2-y1)/(x2-x1) = (-5 - 3)/(4 - 2) = -8/2 = -4

I can explain the other questions if nobody else does once I finish my own homework, haha :stuck_out_tongue: Good luck!

@glasshours‌ @Jor26029‌ thank you guys. really appreciate the help. the math on the January 2011 SAT was considered easy so I got to do a better dob with the hard problems. Thanks once again

Predictions for the experimental section?

Does anyone know if my schools will get my scores by nov. 1st ?

I’ve taken the SAT 3 times already. i get the same experimental writing every time
