October 15 PSAT Discussion

but being dormant doesn't "subdue" its volatility. being dormant is the complete opposite of being explosive. It contradicts or masks or disguises the volcano's real nature. belie is correct.

so is everyone SURE that the answer was supercilious????

I dont think I even got a 190 now...

does anyone remember the writing question towards the end, where it asked how to better develop the last paragraph? choices included "add a quote", "talk about other places he traveled", "elaborate on his change of opinion", "talk about treatment on British ship(??)" and I don't remember the last one.

it shoulda been elaborate on his changing opinion

I put elaborate on his change of opinion

okay, good. :] that's what I put too.

@ibbc
the compound inequality one was 75<(x-2)/3<76
we were trying to find out a value of (x-2)/6
B/C (x-2)/3 x 1/2 = (x-2)/6, i multiplied everything by 1/2
so i had 37.5<(x-2)/6<38
Because you are only solving for (x-2)/6, and not x alone, i just picked a number between 37.5 and 38, and i picked 37.6

Toward the end of the second math section in the free response/grid-in, did anyone get one answer as 3?

i got 3, but i can't even remember what the problem was about

^ do u remember the question?

yeahhhh i remember it was where the median and the average were equal
the #s were 2, 7, 11, 12 and x
so i added them all up and divided by 5, (32+x)/5
if you used 3, then it would be (32+3)/5=35/5=7, which is the median
you could also use 23, so (32+23)/5=55/5=11, and since 11 would be the middle if 23 was x then 23 was the other answer.

on that one 3, 23,and 8 all worked

I personally put 8, but both 3 and 8 work so you could have chosen either one

dammit!!!! this PSAT owned me!!! ahh! this year was way harder than last years PSAT. i think my last year score was way better.... (134).

Awesome.

Was the population one [categorized by age-groups] 21,000?

The fish one [probability of choosing a trout, I think], was 5/12 right?

yup, I got 21000 for the population one,
and I don't quite remember the trout one.

zoaxanthellae- i got 21,000 and 5/12

Quick question guys:
Many of you put that
Topography vs Mineralogy.

I put Visual vs. intuition.

Visual - They argued that the canyons were carved by water
Intuition - They decided BECAUSE of the carbonate matter, water was scarce. Seems indirect insight?

I definatly got 3 as one of the answers...
27 for another
and 18 for the square with the circles (36/2).

yes and 5/12 sounds right./

dang do you think this years writing was harder/easier than last year

i missed 2 last year and got 73, i know i missed 3 already this year (hopefully only 3), but if i do do you guys think that is like 69 (from last year, missing 3 +3/4 for errors) or will it be higher/lower

if i dont get nmsf it will be because of math, i made one silly mistake on parabola, so now i have like 76 M/about 70 W/i need a 70 in CR, i doubt ill get that because ive never gotten that before on any practice test (always around 65)
