October 2009 SAT Math

Someone answer me!!! I never saw the point-line question and I didn’t have math experimental.

@Mag
I agree - technically, it could be like 9090920930909

Bell curves, there was a line l attached to a line segment that was 4 units long and the top had a length of 3 units to point T. It said what is the distance from point T to lne l, which was 4.

Does anyone remember if the answer to “x + y equals z squared? What is z in terms of x and y?” I got root. x + y

it was like one of the early questions in the all MC section i think its the 25 min section

Was the experimental math the one with the pictograph (answer was 40000)?

@Bell Curves: Relax. If you dont remember the problem it looked like this:

(length) 3 (length)
. (Point P)
|
| <– Pretend these lines are connected and straight.
| (height) 4 (height)
|
_____ (line L)(This extends further to the left of the drawing and you assume it goes on forever and is parallel.)

What is the shortest distance to Line L from Point P?

Answer: Your mind tells you “Pythagorean Theorem!” but the answer is simply 4. That’s as close as you’ll get.

i hate the SAT as much as anyone, but the t to l problem was not a typo. we learned it in geometry: the distance between a point and a line (even if it doesn’t specifically say “shortest”) is always defined as the shortest distance to the line.

therefore the answer is 4.

@Corey91: Yes it was 40k

Oh I remember now, I picked 4, that was a really easy question. Thank you.

For the line L question, the answer could have been any of the choices except for 3… It has infinite distances so as long the lines continue to be parallel (which you could assume they were parallel since there was a 90 degree angle). I hope SAT figures out that they screwed up…

Maybe some of you guys should email the SAT. But in all likely hood, they might void it, which I wouldn’t want. I would love it to be that they make the curve more generous or give + 1. :D

CB really screwed up the math section this time…

u can report it as a ambiguous question

what grid in was the answer “21” for?

that line question was the most ■■■■■■■■ question in the world that I thought it was an experimental section. There are infinite number of possibilities and if 5 is wrong then there are going to be a lot of complaints to collegeboard.

i think it was how much $ you save on buying a pack of something, and yea the triangle and points to line L is an ambiguous question, it needs to be specified, distance doesnt necessarily mean shortest, i put 4 (since i saw the square) but people will complain and it could be committed.

Do you guys think that 1 grid in wrong is still an 800 since you don’t get penalized for getting them wrong, so a raw score of 53.

53 is probably 780. Even if you get -1 that is not grid in, your raw score is 53. I think the buying one is experimental.?

if they omit the line question then even if u get one multiple choice wrong I think it will still be good for 800

I think the 21 question was a % question I just remember it being 96 - 75 or something similar.

what question was “line translated (-4,-3)”
