October 2011 SAT Writing

What was the answer to the improving paragraph questions that asked which sentence should be deleted from the passage, I chose the answer:

“All three of these sports are equal in injury” or something like that

@NeedsHelp1212: I think my essay wasn’t bad? This is only my second time taking the SAT - the first time I got a 10, so hopefully they won’t notice!

@Indianguy94: I chose that too! I think that’ sit.

Also, for the last section, did anyone else have like 3 As? It freaked me out, cause normally I never have that many As.

i got 3 As!

What is the consensus on the New Zealand question?

i’m pretty sure the new zealand one was the “has” part
at first i was confused about the “when”

but since the action is completed, you have to use simple past tense instead of present perfect

plus, they specified the time

ok alright thanks 790W then :)

else, it isn’t too pretty

I know the New Zealand question was “when,” not “had.” The error was in “it was not until X when…” It should be “it was not until X that…”

[It was not until…](<a href=“Forum Link”>Forum Link)…

^Yea but isn’t had wrong as well?

It was not until _____ when isn’t wrong… is it

^ “When” is wrong in that case, it modifies 1980’s and gives you an incomplete clause. If when is used, there still needs to be a “that” after it. Like this: “Though New Zealand had fostered music for decades, it was not until the 1980’s when the international market opened up that New Zealand musicians began to reach foreign audiences.” WHEN is directly referring to the 1980’s, in this sentence and in the original question. The “until…” must be completed with a “that.”

Does anyone remember a question in the last writing section which talked about financial and artistic control of a company?

^ Not only financial but also artistic control

Does anyone remember the question about desert plants…? It was something like:

While visiting the Blah Blah desert, trees were seen leaning at odd angles by a group of fascinated tourists.

Was it that or: a group of fascinated tourists saw trees leaning at odd angles.

They both sounded stupid (as do most of the writing questions) so…

what was the last question section 10 number 14 does anyone remember

^ Martha, not surprisingly, is fluent in French

good thanks bro now i know i got everything right

Thank you ,vermilionwaves. How confident are you on that answer? The other answer which was possible went something along the lines of:

“not only in financial matters but also artistic”.

I presume that it lacked parallelism and should have been “but also in artistic”.

Am I right?

Yes I’m very sure that one was the only correct answer.
