October 22 2011 ACT Science Discush

I felt like this test I was WAY less rushed on both science and reading… I wasnt even finishing my science tests, and reading I was making with like 10 seconds left… but here I finished science with about 2 mins left and reading with around 1 min… Im kind of mad that I got 1 math question wrong, but overall hoping for 33+ composite!! think I may have actually gotten it :D

yessss i put 3 for genus :)

What about the question with the pyruvic acid. Was it no because the Ka was less than the half point or the equivalence point?

Was it hydrometer? (it was the one that asked like which instrument was used for…)

I prob got a 10…I guessed on the last 5 for each section

It was a buret. I may have interpreted it incorrectly, but the passage explained that the instrument used was tall and skinny with a valve or something at the bottom, which was the picture of the buret.

I put ruler I think…

■■■

Oh no I’m not talking about the one with the pictures…it was for another passage I think…one of the other options was “balance” I believe…I said “hydrometer”…It was the passage that had two charts I think?

Anybody else know what I’m talking about?

And based on what Touss said I think ruler might have been another option.

LOL, it was a scale. how would you measure plants weight in grams with a hydrometer?!?!

it was balance because it was measured in grams

i thought that if molarity of NAOH increased effectiveness would decrease because it would become diluted. does anyone know for sure?

darnit, that’s what I was thinking but I wasn’t sure because I didn’t know what a hydrometer was…

And for the one that was like the ball fell but did not bounce, was it C (or whatever the variable was…it was y/h i believe) = 0?

yea, c would = 0

yea i put c=0 too but a bunch of people are saying its .5

c=0, because the height after the ball is dropped is 0. The equation was y/h (or something like that), so if y is 0, c has to be 0.

It’s .5 up for the other question. The one you’re talking about is 0, yeah.
I missed the amplitude wavelength thing, because the the fact there was an Amplitude Wavelength answer and Wavelength Amplitude answer kinda threw me off. Obviously it couldn’t be both answers, but both seemed right to me. I’m guessing Amplitude was supposed to be the independent factor while Wavelength was the dependent, which makes sense. I hope it has a curve of 1!

What are you all expecting the curve to be? I’m going to make the healthy assumption that a -1 = 36, because more than two of the questions required outside knowledge… I’m actually baffled that they asked THAT MANY of them.

Yeah. I want to cry. None of the practice tests required that much outside knowledge. Most didn’t require ANY.

So true ethereal. I feel like I did great in all of my other sections. I only took 1 year of advanced bio and I had no idea what a genus is. I’m learning about the effects of air resistance and gravity on objects in free fall right now in physics. There better be an insane curve. None of my practice tests required outside info, it’s bs that this one did.

This was my first time taking the test, and I had no idea what to expect for the science section… It was ridiculous.

I felt like I was doing pretty well pacing myself, but then realized just how fast 35 minutes flies by. I had to skip the 3 students question, come back with a minute left, and skim the questions/passages and make crazy fast guesses… not fun.

So this amount of outside knowledge isn’t normal? I felt like a lot of these needed classroom knowledge and some pretty deep critical thinking (not what I was expecting!) The gravity/air resistance one couldn’t be answered without some physics knowledge, and even with it you could get yourself into a bind since both gravity and air res. decrease as you go up in altitude AND both factors will produce proportional data.

The chem one killed me, too… too much thinking; not enough time. Also, the titration stuff was pretty complex if you didn’t know what they were talking about. I took chem two years ago (I could barely remember anything) and found that passage pretty tricky.

Does anyone think that there’s a chance for a decent curve?
