***October SAT 2016 (US Only) Thread ****

@clo055 May I ask your opinion on the difficulty of practice tests 4, 5, and 6? Which did you feel was the most challenging? My DS will be taking a proctored practice test in a week and a half and he has the option of those three (he’s already taken practice test 1, 2, and 3) and I’d like him to take the most difficult one under the proctored conditions and do the other two on his own.

IMO, practice test #4, it has the hardest math curve out all 6 practice tests for sure!

@3scoutsmom well, my scores were 1560 for #4, 1480 for #5 and 1540 for #6. So judging from these I would say all parts of 5 were hardest for me, although I’m sure it varies for everyone.

oops, I thought scores were coming out the 21st until I actually checked on the CB website…ugh but the first search result for “SAT October 2016 score release” is a college prep website or something that gives the wrong info :frowning:

i’m actually excited to see my scores! but I’m also scared for PSAT haha

Hello guys, I just wanted to know which prep books seemed the most realistic in comparison to the actual test?

hey everyone! I hope you all did great on this past SAT test! Would anyone mind giving me an estimate of where they think my score would be at? Thank you in advance!!
reading (-10) writing(-5) math(-15)

Thanks!

@Hannicollege 1350 ish…

Yoohooaddict- thank you!!

@Hannicollege No problem at all.

@59lespaul i thought it has the easiest curve you can miss one question and still get a perfect score on math

@OMPursuit typically colleges will not allow @APS2000 to send in his essay score for one test and just the MC for second test even if he performed better on the second test. So if hes not satisfied with his score but is satisfied with his essay score he’d most likely still have to take the essay again second time around

@BucketsUCSC depends on the school. Some schools don’t care about easy at all. Some that superscore will allow one test with essay and one without but it depends on the school.

Why would @APS2000 need to take the essay again? They can send both scores. If the college superscores it’ll take the best numbers across the board, and if it requires all tests they don’t have a choice in the matter. @BucketsUCSC
If their scores are reeally different between dates, that may be another thing…

I certainly won’t be retaking a good score just to raise my essay- but then again, I’m no humanities major. >.>;

the vast majority of colleges take the best score from a single setting so like most colleges if they highly recommend or require the essay he’d have to make a decision on whether or not he wants to send the worse score with the essay or the better score without the essay which could be bad if the college highly recommends or requires it. Although the score itself likely matters very little it’d still be the smartest option to the take the test with the essay every time as it gives you the most options

Only 5 days left!

^^^only, only, ONLY!!! Thankfully ds is not as apprehensive about these things as I am…

I dropped the Essay on test day and moved to non writing. Do you think this will delay my score?

Which section does everyone expect to have the harshest curve and which will be the most lenient?

I felt like the reading was much more difficult than the practice tests on college board. On the practice tests 5 and 6 I got in the low-mid 700’s but I definitely did much worse on the actual SAT. Math was easy except I forgot how to divide polynomials (haha). The grammar am easy (haha get the irony). Overall I thought I did well on the essay.

Harshest curve? Probably Math w/ Calculator simply because a lot of people thought it was easy… ( I don’t like thinking these things because I feel like it’s jinxing everything…).

Most lenient is probably reading, like usual, since it’s difficult for most people and has the most questions. So like 1-2 wrong could still be an 800. Hopefully!

Scores come out Thursday! Not sure why I’m so excited…like it’s going to be hard for this SAT to be better than my ACT …the real thing I should be worrying about is PSAT-NMSQT scores…but those don’t come out until Dec. so I guess this is one thing to get me excited!
