OCTOBER SAT Subject Test: Math Level 2

hm...I'm confused, why do people want a hard test and good curve? I mean the best curve is only -1 more raw score from a normal one meaning you could get 1 more wrong to maintain the same score. If the test was easy, then people would do a lot better and wouldnt need a curve. Anyways WOW a lot of people on CC saying that this test was hard, how is it compared to the June one (thats the one I took).

okay for the sd problem. Correct my reasoning.

Suppose we have 3 numbers: 2 4 6
Then the Z score would be (data - mean) / sd. let the data be 2 so thus we have (2 - 4) / 2 = -1

Then we double the 3 numbers: 4 8 12
Then the Z score for the same data 2 would be (4 - 8) / 4 = -1.

Thus it stays the same. Just 2 two bits :)

I second what mikeunlacher said.
The formula for z-score is:
z= (x-mean)/ S.D.
Thus when the scores are doubled, Not only does the data point (x) but also the mean and the standard deviation are doubled. Thus the value of z remains the same.

Ugh. I completely forgot about that. Yeah that is correct, got that wrong

Does anyone remember the answer choice for the Standard Deviation question? Was it A,B,C,D, or E?

I believe it was C.

i thought the june test was easier than this...only by like 3 problems though, but even that can decide between 760 and 800...

@mikeunlacher
I too think it was C.

@Shubham92
June SAT Math 2 was a little easier, but this should get compensated by a scoring scale.

Wow, more than 10,000 views already

let's predict the curve.
-7 = 800?

That's the normal curve, but since everyone thought it was hard, it will probably be 9 or so

Um I think that might be a tad generous

Is that -7 questions or -7 raw points ?

-7 raw points.

You see, this happened with the June Math IIC everyone thought it would be -7...ended up -6...so don't be too hopeful......

Wow, I really hope there was a generous curve here! I took this Subject Test last January (got 780), and reading the questions you guys have here, my test was NOTHING compared to this test. I know the anguish that comes with waiting for test scores, and I hope you all get better grades than you expect. (:

Gosh, that would be nice to have an unexpectedly good score. :) Thanks, dolcevalse. :)

what is the most generous curve that has happened on the Math II -8 = 800?

I thought -8 was the normal curve

-6 is the normal curve
