odd situation regarding recommendations...

So, in November, MAYBE early December or so, I decided to get my letters of recommendation settled so that I could not worry about it over break (obviously...), but during this time, I was still in the early stages of the CommonApp, and I think that maybe, just maybe, I did not yet enter my social security number on the teacher recommendation forms. I remember that being one of the last things I entered for some odd reason, and can not recall if that was before or after I sent the requests/forms for recs.

Question: Could that be the reason most of my schools have not received my letters of recommendation? Some have, but some haven't, and I'm really curious as to whether this issue may cause that much of a mix-up, or if this is just the usual "admissions simply haven't processed all your materials" type of delay?

It’s definitely used as a matching system, but I didn’t think adding your SS# was required and was optional. Plus, obviously, international students wouldn’t even have a social security number. However, that the schools have not yet received, I think I might be inclined to do some serious sleuthing at this late date.

Not adding SS is fine. In fact, I don’t think CommonApp makes it optional b/c not all students want to give their SS# to teachers for security reasons…as long as your DOB is on it, you are fine
