My grades for second semester senior year dropped a lot-- I got two C's, which has never happened to me before. I am extremely concerned that Smith is going to rescind my acceptance. Seeing as I was accepted ED, my grades compared to other applicants were not as good to begin with. Also, everyone has been getting some mailing about a yearbook or something, and I have yet to get it, which makes me even more nervous. To top it off, my bannerweb ID doesn't seem to be working. I contacted the registrar's office, but I'm worried that Smith has already taken away my acceptance.
I know theres a good chance I'm just being neurotic, but does anyone know just how bad grades have to be in order for Smith to rescind an acceptance, and what I should do if this were to happen to me?

It has more to do with your GPA than your actual grades. Colleges knows your grades will drop. Has you transcript already been sent to Smith? I don’t know if you can tell if your acceptance has been revoked as of right now, but I don’t think you should fret that much.
Don’t worry.

read sth a while ago from The Chronicle of Higher Education (2003)

"Smith College has two warning letters, dubbed “Slide One,” for students whose grades drop, and “Slide Two,” for those who fail a course. Only a handful of each go out each year, and withdrawing an offer is rare, according to Audrey Y. Smith, director of admission.

“Usually, there’s a reasonable explanation, and when there is not, we rescind admissions, which is the most unpleasant thing that any admissions director could have to do,” she says."

Best thing you can do is call the Admissions office…the registrar doesn’t have anything to do with you at this point. But like the others, I doubt if they would rescind you on this basis.

Just because you didn’t get hte mailing about the student register does not mean anything at all. If the Admissions Office was going to rescind your acceptance, the would be in touch with you. The Registrar is not involved in this.

It’s not totally out of the realm of possibility, but I highly doubt they’re going to rescind your acceptance over two C’s in an otherwise strong academic record. Just take a deep breath, figure out why you got those C’s and focus on improving the habits that contributed to it so that you don’t fall into the same trap in college.

Also, just because you were accepted ED does not mean your grades are not pretty much the same as everyone else’s.

Don’t worry about the Register, like S&P said. I think it’s done by some company in Kansas, and they’re prone to many errors (last year, they spelled my name wrong in the mailer). It’s not even a yearbook–in fact, Smith won’t have a yearbook this year, I don’t think, which is unfortunate.

Two Cs probably won’t make a huge difference; I’ve heard that a straight-A student becoming a straight-C student or any student who earns a D in a or lower in a senior class will set off alarm bells, but two Cs are practically commonplace. Your grades likely were basically the same as everyone else’s, regardless of the fact that you were accepted ED. And lots of other members of the class of 2015 are probably going through the same thing.

In short, relax. :)

I would advise the OP to contact Smith admissions regardless. If she is not receiving mailings, then something may be amiss, such as an incorrect mailing address or an unrecorded deposit. A phone call will clear everything up.

I doubt those grades would result in Smith rescinding the acceptance. Besides, even if they did, the OP would be contacted.

I received a D in an Advanced Marine Biology class at school but my overall gpa is a 3.5. I also dropped AP Calculus class because I was sick for almost 3 weeks and I had to devout more time to working with my dad since we were in financial trouble. Should I be worried about my admission getting rescinded? :(

I don’t think so…but for you own peace of mind you might want to call the Admissions Office and speak to the rep for your area and go over the circumstances. Good luck.
