I just want to know some good schools around/in Illinois that have decent engineering programs that I could likely get accepted to. University of Illinois is my dream school, but odds are that I won't be accepted into their engineering program. Iowa and Iowa State are colleges that I am currently interested in.

I've been in band since sixth grade, and I've always been in the best band possible. (I made IMEA, which is an Illinois honor band). I play varsity volleyball (team captain). I don't think this matters, but I work 2 jobs as well. I've taken every single math class possible in my school (up to AP Calculus BC).

UWGPA :3.8
ACT:
Composite:28
Math:33
English:23
Science:29
Reading:28

I also want to do AFROTC

If more info is necessary, then just ask.

Thanks!

UIUC definitely isn’t that far out of reach, imo. I’d consider it a low reach. Definitely worth a shot!

Iowa State and Iowa are both great schools and matches for your stats. I don’t know how generous they are with merit aid, but you’re towards the top of the applicant pool at ISU and have a shot at some aid.

I would suggest taking a look at Missouri S&T. It’s well known in the region, you definitely won’t have trouble finding a job with a degree from S&T! They accept over 90% of applicants and your stats are strong so it’d be a safety. You will probably pay less here than you would at UIUC, even as an OOS student, which is always a plus!

SIU-Carbondale and SIU-Edwardsville are both decent schools with engineering programs, and are definitely safeties for you. Your stats are really good for both schools and merit aid is a possibility!

If you don’t mind going a bit further, Kansas is a decent school and a school you could get into without a doubt.

There are probably lots of schools that fit your criteria in Ohio as well but I don’t much about any schools there.

Rose-Hulman, Purdue, UW Madison, Minnesota, Michigan are all good schools as well, although none are safeties like you asked.

Okay thanks. I was probably going to apply to UIUC, anyway. All the schools you listed have been ideas, too. Thanks for the info.

bump for more input

UIUC has mid50 ACT 31-34 for Engineering.UMich is about the same. In state students are a lot easier to get in, but UIUC may still be a reach for you.

If you are interested in urban schools, UIC and IIT both have ROTC and accredited engineering programs. You should definitely be able to get into both.

It would be a lot easier to get in UIC then transfer to UIUC next year.

I grew up in Iowa. For Engineering I’d focus on Iowa State.

University of Wisconsin-Platteville has a great engineering program, and it’s very close to the Southern Illinois border. You would easily be able to get in there! Marquette, Madison, or Minnesota are also great schools!
