Of those who were accepted to LSA

Who did not take BIOLOGY?
I didnt and did not know i had to until i read the instructions page of the application page?
I only took Chemistry (IB HL Chemistry). And thats it! I called them to ask whether it was necessary and the lady who replied said "thats what they will try to look for among strong applicants". And I asked what should I do then.. and she replied to take a semester course of bio at a community college because that is also counted as a year long course. But i live in japan and I am chinese. I dont understand a single japanese (except really easy ones). So I cant go to some random college and take a course. I dont know what i should do!

I didn’t know that was required? I took Molecular Biology in 9th grade (it’s a requirement at my school), but I don’t know if that counts (and I was accepted). I highly doubt it’s required (it’s recommended probably - check again to make sure of that), and, if the rest of your application is strong, I doubt they’ll care that you have not taken biology. I mean, I couldn’t imagine them in committee deciding that they’ll reject you because they need a kid who has taken a biology class as opposed to one who hasn’t.

It says this on the website:
To be considered for freshman admission into LSA, you must complete these classes by the end of your senior
year in high school:
• Four years of English
• Three years of science, including biology
• Three years of mathematics
• Three years of history and/or social science
• Two years of the same foreign language
• Three years of other academic subjects

In ninth grade i just took “Science” which is chem, bio, phys altogether. I didnt know it was “required”… I’m worried now.

Other parts of my application are okay I guess. I have good extracurriculars. My essays are quite good and recommendations, I havent read them but I think theyre strong because I chose the two teachers who loved me and told me theyd only right about my strengths. My gpa is 3.6 unweighted until I slacked off this semester with 3 C+s … that is my biggest issue right now but… still… BIO!

I wouldn’t worry too much. UMich also “requires” two years of the same language. I took half a year of Spanish and I got accepted.

Yeah, don’t worry about that. You don’t need the Bio. I only took 3 years of English and it didn’t cause any problems.

No offense or anything (just trying to give some good advice), but you don’t really have much of a chance at getting accepted anyways, (low GPA for international student, 3 C’s senior year which will probably get your app rescinded anyways, what seems to be a weak schedule (1 year of science?) and you’re applying SUPER late) so I wouldn’t take the Biology course.

That’s not good advice. Apply regardless of what yosup decides to say.

Just to clarify:

I’m not saying he shouldn’t apply. I’m just saying it’s not worth the time and money to take the Biology course since his chances of getting accepted are so low.

Umm, even if my chances were higher, I actually wasnt planning to take a biology course because I will hate it (no offense to anyone) and I will not get a decent grade from that class and will only make the admissions hate me even more.
I am going to apply anyways though

Oh woops. My bad yosup.
