Off Campus Apartments?

I'm looking for a one bedroom off campus apartment for fall 2012. I've been looking mainly in West Campus and a few in North Campus, though its mostly condos in that area. I want to be near campus, but it seems like all of the apartments within a 2 mile radius of UT have rents of $1,300+. Granted, they're fairly luxurious apartments, but still a little too pricey for me.

Anyone have any tips on finding apartments close to campus with not so high of a price tag? Or will I just have to pay up if I want the proximity? Thanks!

It’s not THAT hard to find affordable apartments in the campus area, especially if you’re willing to get a roommate or something. I think the best way is to just find a realtor. Go into/call one of the realty offices around campus, tell them your price range and the area you’re interested in, and they’ll have a realtor show you around for free. FYI, there’s nothing wrong with condos, if that’s what you were implying - I live in one now and the rent is the same/cheaper than it would be with a similar apartment.
