Off-Campus Housing Advice Needed

Hi everyone! I’ve been following these threads ever since I applied to Bama, and let me just say how excited I am to be attending school there in the Fall! I am going to be a Ph.D. student.

I live in New England and have never actually visited the campus. It seems unlikely that I will get a chance to do so before moving down in August. This has made apartment hunting a bit tricky! I’ve spent a lot of time reading these pages, using the university’s off-campus housing search sites, apartment rating sites, general Googling, etc. However, I’m still a bit lost. I’m hoping that someone here might be able to help me out a bit! I would love some feedback about specific apartment or neighborhood recommendations.

Here’s my criteria in a nutshell:

 1. I have a cat, so it needs to be pet-friendly.
 2. I will be living alone, so safety is a definite priority.
 3. I would like to be fairly close to the University so that I don’t feel completely isolated. (I hope to work on campus as a grad assistant and take advantage of all the amenities campus has to offer!)
 4. However, I don’t really want to end up in a loud/crazy/all undergrad/party all the time living environment. (I remember what my undergrad was like… )
 5. A furnished apartment would be preferable.
 6. I would like a washer/dryer in the unit.

Again, if you have any specific apartment recommendations or even neighborhood recommendations, I would be so grateful. Thanks in advance!

welcome

Look at Crimson Sterling, although I’m not sure about it being pet friendly.

Will you have a car?

just checked…it is pet friendly. :)

Thank you! Yes, I will have a car.

It’s nice, close to campus, can come furnished, and with W&D.
