Now is the time to begin looking at off campus housing, especially if your student has a particular property in mind or has specific needs such as location, one bedroom, or shuttle service.

There are several threads here offering tips for making the search easier. Use the search tool and feel free to link them if you’d like. Being diligent in checking out a property now will spare unnecessary frustration later.:)

There are several new complexes in the works and additions being planned at others. New units are in the works on 15th Street across from Central High School, but I’m not sure of the name. Also, “The Gates” is planning to build new one bedroom units.

This is snipped from an article in the Tuscaloosa News published on 6/20/13. It describes the new complex mentioned above.

"According to plans submitted to City Hall, the 10th Avenue at 15th Street project is expected to have a total of 555 bedrooms — 20 one-bedroom units, 25 two-bedroom units, 135 three-bedroom units and 20 four-bedroom units — along with 10,000 square feet of commercial space along the 10th Avenue side, which amounts to about 3 percent of the total square footage, and a 589-space parking deck on the north side.

Construction is slated to begin in early 2014 with completion sometime in 2015."

The new complex on 10th Avenue and 15th street is called South 10. See http://www.south10apts.com/</a>.
