Aaaaargh! explodes

screw it...
i'm going to go Stern

called the office.

they didn't say much. i guess it's still purgatory for us. that was just an update to see whether students that were taken off the waitlist of other schools still want to remain on columbia's. since hyp will be taken students off soon they want to know if we REAAAAALLY want columbia.

Ugh, they made us wait for this?!

Who got in?!

Nobody on CC apparently.

screw it...
I am going to Northwestern

Okay, I just saw the exact same mail in my inbox too.

I'm pretty confused. What does this even mean? Someone here said it right: they used a lot of words to say basically nothing. How can we ALL be on the extended waitlist? I mean, if spots become available, they're going over ALL our apps again? WHAT ARE THEY UPTO? WHY DO THEY LIKE TORTURING US? Okay, I'll shut up before a giant axe falls on my head.

So the basic question is this: should we write a NEW statement, send in our old statement, or just write a basic short e-mail saying we are still interested?

Guys, I don't know what to do. Though I think we should all stick together.

There's no way no one on CC made it. Obviously everyone that was left over was stuck on the extended list. I think they accepted who they wanted and rather than reject the rest, they kept us around as safeties, just in case people from their enrollment list start going off to other schools or such. We're there to make sure that gap is filled if they have one.

I doubt they accepted many people or anyone at all, but that's just my opinion.

ya it seems like it was just a check up to see if people are still interested. And seeing as people are dropping off, it makes Columbia's work sooo much easier.

Exactly. I think that was the whole idea behind this e-mail.

I'm not sure of what to do at this point.

I think tea's got a point there. They just wanted to shorten the waitlist a little. Maybe they wanted us to drop out instead of them doing it because if they had rejected people and then people had dropped the waitlist, they might not have had enough people left to fill whatever spots they have left. I doubt there are spots left at this point, though.

haha tea, nice ;)
I called yesterday and it seems like there are spots left for sure, I think they just want to see who still really wants to go to columbia vs. who is just sticking on the waitlist for the heck of it

My counselor said:

We are keeping students on the wait list if you still wish to remain on it. No one has been rejected from the list, but student have taken themselves off.

Nickel Xenon: what counselor is this?

My Columbia counselor. Kirin Liquori. I think her name is so adorable, but I don't want to tell her that. >_<

what if you didnt get any e-mail. does this mean reject? I dont think any internationals got these emails.

I am an intl and I got one, so did my friend.

They want to increase their chance of a positive response to an offer too.

If someone gets an offer from the waitlist, they have some time to respond. If they're just gonna say no at the end of it, it really lowers the efficiency of the entire process. So... send out a mass email, let people think again, and alleviate the problem.
