Offer of Admission Withdrawn From UCI: Chances of a successful appeal?

My offer of admission to attend UCI was withdrawn a few days ago. Although I was not told the reason why my offer was withdrawn when I contacted the admissions office, I know that one day prior, my MyAdmissions portal still had not received one of my transcripts. The deadline for all transcripts was 7/1, and my offer was withdrawn on 7/18.

This is simply speculation, but I believe the reason that the UCI admissions office did not receive my transcript is because I sent my transcript electronically to admissions@uci.edu instead of physically to the mailing address. I sent my transcript on 6/28, which was before the 7/1 deadline. I attempted to communicate with the admissions office by email several times because I was unsure if they had received my transcript or not (since it was not updating on MyAdmissions), but I never received a response. I’m not sure when, but at a certain point the admissions website stated in red text to not contact the admissions office until after 7/15, citing that they were still processing our transcripts. I did not contact them any further. Unfortunately, I did not contact admissions between 7/15 and 7/18. When I went to check MyAdmissions, I saw that my offer had been withdrawn.

What do you think my chances are of successfully appealing? I understand that it was my responsibility to send my transcripts to the correct address, but I would have liked some communication with the admissions office on this issue. I know some other students are in the same position as I am, and if any of you have successfully appealed in the past, I and many others would sincerely appreciate hearing your stories.

I also understand that I don’t have to attend UCI as a freshman. I’m open to attending a community college with the intention of transferring, and I am even considering joining a military branch if I am not reinstated to UCI. At this point, I am waiting for the admissions office to get back to me on my appeal, which they say will take 4-6 weeks to respond to.

Thank you for your time.

Hello. A similar thing happened to me a earlier this week too. However, my high school had sent my transcript electronically before the deadline. I realized is wasn’t received on 7/1 but wasn’t able to mail it until 7/17. I have since appealed and included a letter of appeal, letter from principal about how my transcript had been requested and sent on time, a copy of my initial transcript request that was marked as sent, and some screenshots of me contacting admissions counselor about my issue. I received an email today to check my appeal status and was granted admission again. So the appeal is worth a shot.

That is encouraging to hear. Thank you.

No problem. If the admissions office made a mistake, there’s a good chance they’ll reinstate you.

When did you find out about your admission being withdrawn?

@uci2021

@collegedreamss I’m not that guy, but I just got reinstated to UCI about 5 hours ago. My admissions offer was withdrawn on 7/18, I sent my appeal on 7/19, and I was reinstated on 7/25. Hope that helps!

@collegedreamss Also, I didn’t go to the admissions office in person. From what I’ve seen and heard on Facebook, several people had gotten reinstated very shortly after they went in person and talked to some people in high positions in the UCI faculty. I didn’t go at all. Since UCI seems to have withdrawn admission from many students this year, they may take longer. I think I happened to submit my appeal earlier than others, and as a result I heard back earlier than others. I would still aim to hear back in that 4-6 week window from the time you submit your appeal as a general guideline for the whole process. Good luck!

@heizeheize thank you so much! I am so glad to hear that you were reinstated!

I also had my admission withdrawn from uci on 7/18 with a similar situation about an unreceived transcript. I sent a cc transcript electronically on 6/16, but it wouldn’t appear on my portal as received. So I contacted admissions and they said that it would take about two weeks to process. I let two weeks pass by and my transcript still wouldn’t appear as received. I figured out on 7/6 that they only received transcripts through parchment otherwise a hard copy was needed. I called admissions that day and they told me I could still mail in a hard copy as long as it was postmarked by July 15. They also told me to let my admissions counselor know, so I did. My admissions counselor replied saying it was noted. I mailed in my transcript on 7/6 and it still wasn’t showing up as received. I kept calling them and they said it would take a few days to process. Once 7/15 passed, I called on 7/17 and they told me the same thing again, that it was still processing. Then on 7/18 my admission was withdrawn. I submitted my appeal on 7/20 and I’m still waiting to hear back.

I am wondering what kind of proof you submitted with your appeal?

@collegedreamss For proof, I took a screenshot of my receipt (which I received by email), which had the date when I ordered my transcript and the date when my transcript was sent, albeit electronically. I thought this was the best option since it showed that I sent my transcript on time, just not by the right means.

Good luck! Make sure to get that appeal in as soon as possible!

@heizeheize Oh ok thank you! This has been so helpful to know! Puts me at ease, yeah I submitted my appeal last week on Thursday, so I’m hoping to hear back soon

Update: I was reinstated!

My offer of admission from UCI was recently withdrawn. The reasons being that I was unable to send in my college transcripts. I had sent in my official high school transcript on 6/28. In my junior year of high school, I took a college course from Chaffey College that was held at my high school. The grades from that course were present on my official high school transcript in a separate category.

During the month of June, I was visiting family in India, where there was a large time difference between America and India. I also had some issues with slow network signals. While traveling in India, I kept in my mind the deadline for the freshmen admission conditions and did as followed. On 6/28, when was about to turn in my college transcript (because UCI request both high school and college transcript from me) I saw that Parchment was not allowing me to request transcripts. I messaged my counselor saying that I am unable to send in my college transcript and my grades from my college course are present on my high school transcript. I also asked for advise on how to deal with the matter since I am not in the country. On 7/1, in the morning, I received a message informing me to sending in my college transcript as soon as possible in order for my holds to be cleared. Unfortunately, I saw the message on 7/3 because I was on my flight back home. On the same day, I order a transcript from Chaffey College’s website using National ClearingHouse. I used the my counselor’s email to send the transcripts. I messaged my counselor, explain the process that I had gone through to send in the transcripts. 2 days later, I received a message from National ClearingHouse that the transcript was received. On the same day, 7/5 I received a message from the counselor, telling me to send the transcripts from Parchment. Feeling a little in the dark and unadvised, I mistakenly decided to send another transcript, but this time using <admissions.uci.edu> through National ClearingHouse. Little did I know that National ClearingHouse wasn’t a portal that UCI accepted. They didn’t inform me of any of those terms until I went there and spoke to them the day I was withdrawn.</admissions.uci.edu>

On 7/18, I received my offer of admissions withdrawn letter. I then decided to write an appeal explaining everything I had done in detail and want I was messaged to do like I have explained above. I attached the message and confirmation of sent transcripts documents. I also went to Chaffey College directly to request a physical transcript (which took one business day and delay the process for me). Then on 7/19, I went to UCI to hand in my appeal with all the documents and transcripts. While I was, I explained my situation to someone working there and they informed me that I was guided wrong about the transcript and that there was a lot of confusion in the communication. They also informed me that since I have turn in my appeal by hand, it will take longer for the decision to arrive than by online.

I understand that there has been a lot of misunderstanding from my part and I also understand that I should have turned my transcript on time. However, I wanted to do it as soon as possible even after the date because UCI had set a late deadline for all documents till 7/15. So my question is now, that regrading my situation, will my appeal pass successfully?

I have decided to look into community college for transfer admission to UC. However in the mean time, I will be waiting for the response for 4-6 weeks.

As long as you submitted a good deal of supporting documents and carefully detailed your letter of appeal, I’m sure you’ll be fine. Also, UCI seems to have decided to reinstate students who had problems with their transcripts. Hopefully everything goes well! Good luck! Update us!
