I take Cambridge A Levels at my school and our final exams just finished, it doesn’t feel like they went that well:/ My predicted grades were AAABB but I feel like I might’ve gotten a C or worse in the subjects I was predicted Bs in. Will I get my offer from UIUC rescinded? Apparently a British C is an American B, so will that save me?
What does your offer say?
@VickiSoCal didn’t really say anything except that I was admitted? I didn’t see any conditions.
I would call them and ask an advisor. My reasonably educated guess is you are worrying needlessly. I hope I am correct. Or someone knows for sure.
In the states. We think of a “d’” as a potential problem. And no f’s - failing grades, felonies or f ups (ie social media scandal or other nonsense)
@friedeggsandham On UIUC’s policies website it states that an offer may be rescinded because of:
“Negative changes in academic performance in courses listed as in-progress on the application for admission. For freshmen, this would likely be your senior year courses. For transfers, this would be any college courses ungraded at the time of your application.”
So it doesn’t matter what the acceptance letter says.
That being said, it depends on how much worse these A level grades are than the grades that are already on your transcript. If these A levels are in line with those grades, it doesn’t really matter what you predicted that these grades would be. What matters is whether there was a drop in academic performance.
Now according the Scholaro GPA calculator, both a B and a C in GCE Advanced Level are, indeed, equivalent to a B in American grades. So your American equivalent grades would still be B’s. So long as this does not cause a serious drop in your GPA, as translated to American GPA, you’re fine. A couple of B’s, especially in courses that are equivalent to American AP classes, are HIGHLY unlikely to lead to a recession.
There’s normally a sentence about expected grades. I know at my daughter’s college the US students get a fairly vague instruction to maintain the kind of grades that got them accepted, but that for UK system where the offer is made based on predicted grades, there is a more specific condition based on meeting that. Are you sure there is nothing mentioned in the letter of acceptance /accompanying documents - it should be in there somewhere?
In any case - with 5 A levels, missing one or two probably isn’t an issue.
@SJ2727 nah I didn’t see anything specific like that
@privatebanker i really really hope you’re right, a girl from my school wasn’t rescinded from UW madison for Computer Science even after failing her math final so that gives me hope
@MWolf so am I in trouble if I get a C?
Unlikely. But really, don’t worry about it until you get your scores.
@skieurope man I hope so, thanks!
