Welcome aboard Green09!! Congratulations!!

A smart athlete will seek information from all sources. Sources include NCAA, which is the governing body, US Rowing, the governing body for rowing in the US (of which Navy is a registered member and participant), coaches, particpants and others.

Speaking to the coaches is a given, but it is just a start- an important one I will grant you. The coaches at USNA are very reputiable; unfortunatly there are some coaches out there that are not. In either case, athletes need to know the NCAA rules governing their sport as they will be held accountable to them.

The point remains that athletes-recruited or otherwise- need to register at the NCAA clearinghouse to participate in NCAA regulated varsity athletics. If you need to have a college coach or athletic director tell you that, so be it.

Congrats Green09!

Green09!! THAT'S FABULOUS!!! That means that 3 of us in Columbia have received appointments (though I think you said you got yours through a STL BGO, and I know my classmate is turning his down :()

MAJOR CONGRATS

I just got my loa...I am a recruited basketball player from CT. I attend a private school in MA. See everbody in July!

just curious when was your application complete?

Um maybe this thread will be nicer...ok I finished the app in November but I was recruited so I don't know if I had to go thru all the "hoops"(ha ha) everbody esle did.

What school in MA do you attend?

I'd rather not say right now as there is so much flaming going on but let's say it's in Western Mass. and all girls(ok people?)

Congrats on your LOA; I'll start there this summer as well...and don't worry about the flaming, some people are just picky and look for things to flame new people on...it can't hurt you, and most people here are cool :). Flaming over the internet is nothing like getting flamed one inch away from your face...it's all good for now, you can just ignore these people, haha. Welcome to the site.

ok thanks fiterace youre cool...some of the people on here aren't but that's ok. Congradulations to you too and maybe I'll see you in July. Where are you from?

I'm from the great state of...or not so much....ummm, Ohio. Haha, I've lived here for seven years (longest time I've lived in one place) so I'm tired of it and am looking forward to going somewhere new. :D

congrats spotup4three! where in MA are you....? just curious, since i live in boston.

-shawna

Thanks Boston USMC,

Yea I was really happy when I got the LOA but now this eye waiver stuff is making me crazy. First they tell me I'm qualified, then they tell me I need the eye waiver..I have to call someone today to find out what's going on.

I run the 1600m and the 800m in track, I also wrestle 160lbs but I'm no where good enough to do any of this for USNA. I wan't to try "walking on" the crew team but I don't know how easy that will be without any experience.

lol guys, service selection isn't "navy" or "army", its what you'd do, like swo or marine corps.

I've finally decided!!

Between West Point and Annapolis, I'm choosing Annapolis.

I've heard of other gung-ho girls trying to make this decision. Three of three of them chose USMA. They seem happy. I think I might follow my heart (and not my gas-chamber-and-rucking-camping-loving gut) and go USNA.

Four years at USMA versus a lifetime of Marines. I love challenges and wish sometimes that I could go USMA then Marines. I decided to break it down into the years after the academies. Army vs. Marines. I have decided to [attempt to] fulfill my childhood-adolescent dream of joining the Marines (logistics or absolutely anything they want me to do). The best path for that would be at USNA. Sure, there's no Beast Barracks or Cadet Field Training (two things that really attracted me to USMA), but the training for the Marines after the academy will make up for all that fun.

I was finally able to shut everyone else's opinions out, everyone else's demands, everyone else's "advice" and search deep inside. First intution. I'd be happy (haha, I gotta write myself this in a letter). I'd have a better chance of going Marines. I'd even get to run XC/track with the solid coach. I'd be around Marines. Sure, I'll miss the running up hills, going rappelling, going through gas chambers, having missions late at night in the woods, camping out, and getting down and dirty in the woods, but all that can come after USNA in the Marine training [assuming I'd get a commission].

So...See everyone in June!

yay!!!! congrats, dictatoranna!!! semper fi!!

-shawna

Goood deal,

congrats.
