Reflection

Strengths: I’m well-rounded; I did not have a crazy high GPA or an off the charts ACT score but my grades and scores were competitive while also doing many extracurriculars with leadership positions, volunteering, and having a job.
What you tried to focus on in your application - any hooks you tried to make for yourself: I definitely played up the legacy factor in my Cornell specific essay. I also talked about the Diller program which is highly selective and gave me a lot of volunteer experience and fueled my passion for Judaism and Israel.
Weaknesses: My SAT IIs could definitely have been higher
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I am well-rounded and I really think the legacy helped
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted with Presidential Scholarship to Northeastern, Deferred from University of Michigan
Your “Big Red” factor - the most unique thing in your application: honestly not sure, probably the Diller program

Talked about love of learning and how Cornell would specifically help me achieve my goals. Also what kind of thinker I am and how my thoughts are important to me.

Reflection

Strengths: Test scores, passion in essays
Weaknesses: GPA definitely kills me, rec letter was weak in the end.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Honestly, I’ve asked myself a million times why I was rejected, it wasn’t because I didn’t love Cornell enough…I started this thread after all…I wish there was some way I could find out, it absolutely crushed me to be rejected from my dream school. Nothing was the same for a while afterwards. Got over it eventually.
Your “Big Red” factor - Apparently Cornell thought nothing

@Kassra17‌
I can completely understand your state of mind. Went through it with my son and his ED school. Finally posted his stats on the results thread after a good while. Unfortunately, you will never know why…(the first response to my son’s rejection decision from almost everyone was …‘because you are Asian and want to major in CS’ - didn’t make it easier even if there was no way of knowing if that even was the real reason).
I hope you end up going somewhere where you are happy to learn and grow and take pride in your identity. My best wishes to you.

For the deferred people, How do yall know you were rejected?

l

@Kassra17‌ Wow, we have almost exactly the same states, same income level, and similar ECs. I’m a little sad now reading you got rejected, because I don’t have very much hope for myself now (not that I was that optimistic after getting rejected to UCLA/UC Berkeley) :confused: Anyway, I’m sorry you got rejected, you look like a solid applicant as far as I can tell, and I’m sure you will be successful at any college you go to as long as you keep working hard.
