**OFFICIAL '05 NYU DECISIONS** .. ALL decisions...

I don't go to NYU, but I'd say that attitude will work with any school. If someone doesn't like simply because of your political views, then that's their problem.

thank god. i thought i was going to be the only student at nyu that isnt , forgive me for using the term, a "tree-hugging" liberal.

Ha, don't worry Dilo. I have friends at NYU now, and not all are tree huggers, some the farthest thing from one. Its majority liberal like most schools in the NE (not sure about tree huggers, NYU doesn't have that many trees except the 420 kind, hehe). NYU is big and diverse, so I'm sure you'll easily find people like you, at least that's what everyone tells me.

Seeing dumb liberals upset and crying at everything the president does is a funny sight so I hope I'm able find people to share that with.

haha... well im just not a fan of politics in general. I'd rather let other people who care and would probably do a better job take care of that. haha.

accepted into stern as a stern scholar with a 1530. not going though... no aid.

Accepted: GSP

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 600V, 670M
[] SAT IIs: 630Writ, 610Math IC, 540Chem
[] GPA: 4.338/5.33
[] Rank: 7%
[] Other stats: My school doesn't offer AP, but I just take the Honors courses and pay money for those classes to be counted towards college (Fairleigh Dickinson middle college program)
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I thought they were fantastic, but I wrote them so my opinion doesn't really count.
[] Teacher Recs: Both were pretty good, but the one my law/gov teacher wrote went above and beyond my expectations.
[] Counselor Rec: Good, not too personal though, more of a general sounding rec.
[] Hook (if any): What is that?
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: New Jersey
[] School Type: small, poor, doesn't push its kids as much as they could.
[] Ethnicity: 'Azzzzzzzn' aka Chinese
[] Gender: Female
[] major strength/weakness: I do try to get involved with EC's, sports and tons of volunteer opportunities. I'm not the strongest test taker, hence the mediocre SAT scores.
[] why you think you were accepted/rejected/deferred: I felt I really told NYU my reasons for going there; it was also extremely truthful, because it's been my dream school for years.
[] Likely? If so, which (Sunday at the Square, University Day, etc): UDay
[/ul]Other Factors:
[*]FA package: 8,000 GSP Scholarship (after appeal), 4,000 work study, 5,000 with 2 types of loans; didn't meet EFC.

Accepted GSP- Attending
Top 11% 760v 570m 32ACT
History Major
Accepted at Vanderbilt , Johns Hopkins, UofIllinois, Westmont and Fordham (Rejected at USC, William and Mary, waitlisted at BU)
Financial Aid- 17,000 (8000scholarship, 4000 work study +loans)
Chose NYU because it felt like a really good fit, and I want the whole NYU experience.

I know I shouldn't reply to this but;
chicagojen, what made you choose nyu's gsp over jhu? I'm just wondering because my parents are trying to tell me to choose a school based 90% on its academic ranking, and I HATE it.

I applied for financial aid late at JHU and the financial aid office couldn't have been more unhelpful. We could never speak to a human, nobody returned e-mails or voice mails. I visited the campus, which was beautiful, but the dorms were tiny and gross looking (on the inside, they looked great from the outside), and the students just seemed overly driven and competitive. I know JHU was clearly the best academic choice, but I want to be able to have some fun and a great experience in my four years of college, and I love everything about NYU. So i decided to go with my heart instead of my head. I may regret it, I may not, but I know I would've regretted it if I didn't try NYU.

Accepted into the CAS, but I'll be attending UVa instead.

Decision: Accepted (CAS) (Courant)

[ b]Stats:[ /b][ list]
[ *] SAT:1430 (630 on the language part))
[ *] SAT IIs: 800 Math IIc, 700 Us History, 670 Chemistry (, 550 writing part, but I don't think I sent them that)
[ *] GPA: er, depends if you want weighted or unweighted (meaning ap and honors classes are worth more points that regular classes) I guess about 95
[ *] Rank: 14/173
[ *] Other stats:
[ /list][ b]Subjective:[ /b][ list]
[ *] Essays: I worked on my essays alot, mainly because the numbers on my previous performance on writing evaluations (eg Writing SAT II and English Regents) were ill-reflecting
[ *] Teacher Recs: 2, one teacher said I would change the world, she's cool
[ *] Counselor Rec: 1, I don't know what he wrote, but he's a good guy too
[ *] Hook (if any): hm, I also sent a supplement with my application giving a little introduction to a little pet project theory I made (don't take this too far as theory in this sense is just a collection of beginning theorems of a system I made to discuss a certain question)
[ /list][ b]Location/Person:[ /b][ list]
[ *] State or Country: Long Island, NY
[ *] School Type: Public (Although on Long Island, the school may be more like a private school elsewhere. I say this because I realize that it varies on location)
[ *] Ethnicity: White
[ *] Gender: Male
[ *] major strength/weakness: Strengths would be a strong focus on a particular area (mathematics) and my trying to blatantly show my enthusiasm for my school work. Weaknesses would definitely be my writing scores.
[ *] why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: Well I could talk about character here, but I think cold hard stats might me more infromative. Besides from the supplement I sent (I totally suggest creating a supplement of something extra you would like colleges to see and send it to all of them), I also took many college courses independently while in high school. By the time I graduate high school I will have taken 5 college courses, with only one actually being in my highschool (it was still run by a university). Also about 5 AP courses. and I am a T.A. for my school's AP Calculus class.
[ *] Likely? If so, which (Sunday at the Square, University Day, etc): huh?
