Didn't make it. I was Best in Category at ISEF and Westinghouse semis too. Oh well, must have been my grades. The winner of westinghouse is there. The number of NY people is..way too much. Grades/Stats>Project

yeah i was surprised there were 120 ish from NY this year. thats absurd.

Yeah, the thing is this contest says "we measure the promise of an applicant in the maths and sciences" yet goes around and says the report is significantly more important than anything else...not equally, significantly more important. If I get into BME at Johns Hopkins despite being snubbed of a semifinalist spot it will be one huge lolfest.

ive been told report ~50%, and most for finalists. not nearly as big as siemens, but definitely 'significant.'

that and the whole "science in the blood" stuff is lame, since I just put "None."

Oh well, USABO/USNCO camps, here I come. (I'd choose chem over bio though)

I mean, only five students from my state, Illinois, were chosen. There should not be around twenty-five times as many SF in New York as Illinois. The Chicago metropolitan area is stacked with talent.

Sorry for ranting, I just don't feel this is fair.

im really NJ (i dorm in a NY school), but they put me under NY with my hometown in NJ to the side. We hda a bunch, too. But not nearly as much as NY

Hey i just got back. Yeah...im disappointed i didnt make semi even though I was a semi in siemens and have maxed out stats. I agree with you all though that having 100+ from New York is a bit ridiculous. They should be looking for science talent, not who has better resources, not that I'm putting down anyone. I'm sure everyone deserves it. Anyway, piccolojunior, I'm applying to BME at JHU as well. Whats ur aim sn?

anyone interested in chatting about sts, science, life, the universe, and everything else? I can make a room

I already made it. It's called SCIENCEisBOSS. Join on AIM

for some reason i can't join aim rooms, can you pm me or post your aim sn so i can have you invite me?

So apparently, semi in Intel > semi in Siemens. Just because you got it in Siemens, doesn't mean you will in Intel. There doesn't seem to be anyone who got it in Intel and not in Siemens.

Im pretty sure it goes both ways stupidkid

I personally know two people who got semi in siemens but not intel. I don't know anyone who has it the other way around.

other way around for me =)
but that's mainly since I revamped my paper for sts. It was too rushed for siemens

lol, maybe i was wrong.

YAA! im an SF...congrats to every1 else as well

were there a whole lot more applicants from the New York area, though? I mean, that would explain it...

If you go to the STS website, their press release talks about historically how many finalists have come from each state. NY has ALWAYS had more than everyone else. This year is no anomaly. There's a reason why Siemens made NY its own region this year -- there are so many apps from there.
